So Nervous about GA - need some reassurance Empty So Nervous about GA - need some reassurance

Post by Sara_Crooks 5th October 2011, 7:10 am

Hi Ladies,

I am super nervous of the GA. I know it sounds silly but I have read that one in 10 000 people die from an allergic reaction to the GA or by heart attack/stroke. Its freaking me out. I am paying for part of my surgery today and I am having doubts because I dont want to die. I am worried that I am being selfish just because I want boobs and theres a chance I might die. Its scary.

Sorry i dont mean to freak any pre-ba girls out, i just need some re-assurance.

Thanks xx

Its natural that you feel that way hun, I think we all have our doubts especially when it comes to the GA, but it has all changed from many years ago and you will be very well looked after by the aneasthatist (sp) who is very well trained.

I have had all of these thoughts but its just part of the emotional rollercoaster that we go through before getting our ba. They would be able to give you something to calm your nerves just before the GA if you are very nervous.

You would be more likely to be struck by lightening or hit by a falling meteor. We all get nervous about it. They do monitor you constantly so nothing will happen to you.

Hi Sara

I know exactly how you feel bcos I was the same before I had my BA but I spoke with my anaesthetist and he told me I was more at risk crossing the road than having a ga.

You will be fine hunny don't worry and when you wake up you will have boobs!

Hi hun, its normal to stress, for me, I wasn't stressed at all, and I've had complications before. I have a liver disease, which means there are a few types of aneasthetics I can't have..my blood pressure when 170 over 30 once, I flat lined etc, this was just to take out my wisdom teeth.

I'm not trying to scare you, just trying to say that the people in there are trained for any situation, and they will take good care of you. Its over within an hour, thats it. I never look forward to waking up as it makes me really sick.lol.

Its usually overweight people, and people with underlying problems that are at risk....

I understand how you feel I was exactly like you but they were fab. I remember them chatting with me asking me what age my babies were I answered and the next thing I knew I was awake with new boobies. I was also nervous I'd be sick and cold afterwards I needn't have worried. I was given anti nausea meds and when I woke up there was hit air blowing into my bed!

Thanks so much for the reassurance. I guess GA is such a common way of putting people under, nearly everyone in my family have been under GA once in their lifetime and they are all fine.... xxx

Hey Hun,

I so could have written this post as I feel exactly the same about GA. I've never been put to sleep before so think it's fear of the unknown and being out of control. To be honest, it's the only thing that scares me about the whole thing!

I'm trying hard not to worry as people fit and healthy & even people who are at risk are put to sleep every minute of the day & you never hear of cases going wrong!

I'm Trying to think of the boobies after :)) xxx
