Bloated tummy after GA
So, my BA is in 17 days and am getting really really really nervous about the whole thing, so apologies for my millions of questions over the next few days!!
I've read quite a few times now about a bloated tummy after the GA? Does anyone know whats this due to and can it be avoided?

Re: Bloated tummy after GA
Teddy, not sure what it's caused by other than the GA itself but it is quite amusing!! I'm exactly 1 week post BA and still got a big belly! At least it will go down and I haven't eaten too much!! Good luck Hun, it's a longish road until we will have the look that we want. X

Re: Bloated tummy after GA
Hi Teddy, I am not sure if you can avoid it but I was told to have loads of fresh fruits and walk after the operation which I did and didn't work, I felt like I was going to explode on the 4th day so I took 5 spoons of laxative, and that helped me go to the toilet. I have to say the bloated tummy made me forget about the surgery pain/discomfort...

I took laxatives from day 2 as the GA and coedine can make you constipated, I still have a bit of a bloated belly, but I'm hoping it's not as bad as if I hadn't taken them. I've heard some ladies can't go to the loo for up to a week! hope that helps! Good luck! Xxx

For me this is the worst part and I wasn't prepared for it. I'm on day 5 and still haven't been to the loo (sorry) My stomach is bigger and harder than my boobs and I'm in pain! I've took a senokot last night and 1 today but still nothing. Having said that I've eaten no fruit and I haven't been out of the house so guess I'm not really helping myself x

Re: Bloated tummy after GA
Hi hun,
I had major surgery last year on my spine and the GA completely and utterly bunged me up and gave me the dreaded bloated belly. When I asked why, the Dr said it's because the anaesthetic sends the whole body to sleep and the bowels take the longest to 'wake up' again lol. Apparently they are very stubborn and don't like being messed about!
Like the others have suggested, eat lots of fresh fruit and veg post op and try to get up and about as much as you can (gently!). I hear prunes are meant to be good? Bleurgh.

I'm also pre op but will be stocking up on fig rolls! Gave up smoking 18 months ago and was 'blocked' completely... tried everything and in the end after advice from a pharmacist didn't work the lady in my local shop told me to try fig roll biscuits. Bizarre place but it worked

Massaging your stomach might help Tracy and some gentle walks if you can manage it? I found the senekot took 24 hours to work on me. Hope you feel better soon xxx

Re: Bloated tummy after GA
my belly stuck out as much as my new boobs did.......acording to my lovely hubby!
My tummy was huge, and I couldnt fit into the same jeans I went into the hospital with the very same day! Now thats crazy....I had to have my hubby help me into them , then left that night with the buttons undone:shock:
I have Know idea what causes this but almost every girls gets it.....I think Im going to ask James! lol

I was like Crystal, I couldn't do up my jeans, it was awful. I was lucky though I didn't have trouble going to the loo, so the bloatedness can't just be down to that. It would be interesting to see what James has to say about it. xx

Re: Bloated tummy after GA
i'm with you all on this one, i too reached for the senokot and then the age old remedy of fig roll biscuits!!! tummy has defintitely gone down alot from the initial 2 days but still has a way to go yet!! maybe the calories in the fig rolls won't help too much in the flat stomach department but hey ho!!

Re: Bloated tummy after GA
A ga will in effect turn off your digestive system and it can take a while for it to get back on track, the painkillers and antibiotics don't help matters, so you can get a bit clogged up. It will pass and your tummy will go back down. No ga and no painkillers would be a psinfull way to prevent it, so gentle lacsatives will help you with any discomfort or constapation
