Well although I've had no pain my belly looks like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated it's unreal:( does anyone have any tips to help this. I haven't been a poo (sorry) since Wednesday its really upsetting cos I've got this pop belly I look like a pig shrug

Post by BkozK 21st August 2015, 7:53 pm

Hi Daniellecorbin, I had the exact same thing, was around day 4 I went, I took the laxative liquid the hospital gave me twice a day but didn't seem to help, I took 4 magnesium vitamins which normally helps but didn't so I then ate 5 kiwi in one go, and hay presto. I also came off the strong pain meds post day 3 and I think that really helped too. I'm now a week in and I've been every day since but still got a massive belly, I think it will take time to go down with heathy eating and once I get back to brisk walks. Chin up it will ease. Xx

Its the GA Im afraid, and theres nothing you can do right now. Drink plenty of water, leafy veg and white proteins. If you haven't gone by day 4/5, get yourself some lactulose, about £3 over the counter, and it'll sort you right out. But the buddha belly isnt so easy to shift, it can take a couple of weeks. Peppermint tea is supposed to help. Plus once you're a little further on, try to stand up a bit straighter. Your instinct is to hunch and protect them, so it exacerbates the belly a bit. But it'll go down with time. Its all about patience.

Lactulose is supposed to be quite good, can be bought over the counter at the chemist, plenty fruit & veggies etc. if your on codeine based pain killers these can play havoc with your bowels, using an alternative to codeine for pain relief if need helps.
Once you are back up moving around the buddah belly soon goes so try not to worry about it in the meantime.

I'm feeling great today, the pain since the day of surgery till now has been nonexistent which I'm surprised. Went out today and tried on a new sports bra as I'm finding my Macom a little uncomfortable which I measured a 32F. Just can't wait to get all the strapping off on Wednesday. How are u doing [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Ah that's good to hear. Yeah I'm fine. I was surprised the pain isn't really pain more uncomfortable tightness. I have today though had some stinging in my left wound but reckon that's probably the internal stitches, plus it's been hot and sticky. I went and got the m&s sports bras this morning as had to get out the post op bra. Didn't get measured, had my children with me, tried on a couple and brought the 32dd. Was hoping to be a little bigger, there's still hope xxx

The squishing is normal, it's all the fluids and swelling that are padding you out and protecting you. You might even hear some parping and slurping too, it's just mixing with air bubbles from the op which will be absorbed back into the body.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], trust me, they're bigger than mine, and I'm 32dd! I will guess at 6months post, you'll be in a 30ff/32f.

Hey hun!  I don't miss the bloating one bit! I was so bloated one night I genuinely thought I was going to pop!  It hurt so much. I looked pregnant and my belly stuck out further than my boobies!

I was bloated even after I was able to go to the loo.. for me it was the strong pain killers I think. What finally sorted me out was nice ice cold water that I'd left in the fridge over night with lemon, lime, cucumber and mint leaves in it.. I swear by it.. xx

Hi, it's all very normal. I know it's not nice but it will sort itself out. I found that by moving around a little more helped. Drink plenty and eat healthy. It's just one of the side effects we have. It's a post we see quiet a lot on here. I looked about 6 months gone. And as much as you try and advoid it, it still happens. Hope you feel better soon xxx
