does casual smoking affect your boobies?

so.. do any of you notice that smoking affects the skin on your chest?

basically my skin is in pretty good shape.. however im a verrry very light casual smoker, i dont even like straight tobacco i mix little shreds with chamomile and other herbs, and smoke maybe a ocuple of those a week socially.... i do that extremely infrequently, but i do enjoy it and have for a long time. i go months sometimes years without smoking even that much, i quit before my lift and haven't smoked anything since then.

so recently i thought i might be safe to have a lil smoke now and then; as soon as i started doing this the skin on my boobies started looking different... // i actually got a few stretch marks too. //

is this tiny, miniscule amount of smoking enough to affect my skin there? have any of you noticed anything like that? arrrrrgggggggg its always something. :<

I dont think smoking that little will effect you, I know smoking in general does, as one of the first questions my ps asked was if i smoked which i said no, he then said thats lucky becuase if you had I wont operate on you, so smoking a big amount must affect, but a tiny amount wouldn't.

I smoke 10 a day :( I quit april to august, had a stressful time and started again, my surgeon did ask if i smoked i said yes but ill try and quit.. and that was it, he said nothing else, he didn't say he wouldn't operate if i smoked!! I am scared now as i just cant quit :( x

it makes you heal slower and increases infection risk thats all, but wouldnt give you stretch marks

OK, I have 9 days to quit then, best get cold turkeying :( x

i also have the odd cigarette!! Stopped 4 weeks before my op but i'm struggling a bit!! Probably have 1 or 2 a day but have decided NO MORE FAGS FOR ME!!!
I read last night that smokers are 20 times more likely to have complications than non smokers, and cc is increased if you smoke. Keep thinking of ur boobies girls..... i do know how tough it is though!!

Oh god, in april i used nicorette gum for 2 or 3 weeks! best buy some normal sugar free gum the eh :( I wish id never started again after id quit, at 1 time in my life i was smoking 40 a day and im only 26, shocking and disgusting, but was going through an awful time and turned to fags, but all they did was make me ill. so went to 10 a day then quit, then my psoriasis flared up terrible coz of the stress of quitting so went back on 10 a day, i was doing so well, was so proud, then f'ed it up :( round 2!! thanks AmyD :) Good luck xx

Its been a whole week since my 15 a day habbit, I have been using nicorette gum, my surgery is not until december but I wanted a head start.
Its such a good insentive but I also think of the wrinkles, dry skin, chest infections and colds. ....yuck! NO MORE xxx
Charms I wouldnt have thought what your smoking would have much effect but why not quit anyway

hi LHB, you can do it!! its very difficult, if you've been a smoker and stress comes along, fags are the first thing you think of. I stopped smoking when i fell pregnant with my daughter, but started again due to stress. You can do it hun. Keep focused on ur boobs thats what i'm doing, it will be worth it! I'll check up on you later make sure you haven't given in to temptation!!! lol

I have already had a fag today, i cant just not have 1 now :( i have to of gone all night (sleep) without 1 then continue to not have a fag. that is the only way i have managed to quit!! I have tried quitting in the middle of the day and it is just too hard. x

LHB Try the gum it tastes vile and makes you feel sick but that along with water and loads of apples has helped me loads xxxxxxxxxx

i know what you mean LHB about waking up on a new day and stopping the fags.... drop to one a day for a week, then nothing a few days before ur op. That's what i did, dropped to one a day. When is ur favourite fag of the day? Mine is after myevening meal.... so keep that one and drop the rest. Its easier to accomplish than none at all. And then its easier to drop to nothing from 1, if that makes sense?!!

I really think the stretchmarks are coincidence. Smoking does affect your skin, but slowly over time, not all of a sudden. Did you recently lose a tan or something that may have made stretchmarks more noticable?

I smoke socially and I didn't stop before the op - I just couldn't - but I did quit for 10 days after to allow proper healing.

Good luck - quitting is so tough, even for someone who doesn't smoke unless they're drinking (like me).

I'm not trying to tell you to keep smoking, but just try your best - and definitely don't smoke after!!!

hey guys thanks a lot for the answers. // hope everyone can manage to cut down or quit if they are trying!! i think it does help. sooo i wouldnt have thought such a tiny bit would affect me either, but i think it has.. i tend to overreact to substances especially toxins, when i was pregnant i couldnt smoke at all it made me extremely sick, even tiny bits.. and i know lots of people who smoke when they are pregnant and it doesn't bother them.. so i think i sometimes am oversensitive to stuff like that :<<

about the stretch marks: it isn't just the stretchmarks.. my nips have actually turned a kind of ashy grey color, not pink, and when i squeeze the skin it wrinkles.. its not plump n smooth. so.. obviously.. thats totaly not ok. // i have been reading that smoking actually directly damages the collagen in your skin, as well as affecting healing and complication rates.. and that it can affect the chest/neck etc as well as the face... so im guessing its back to lollipops for me, darnit. gosh darnit.

anyway thats how i always quit when i want to, i just get a big bag of lollipops. dont know if that would work for everyone. // bleh. good luck peeps. guess i just have to think that plump smooth boobies are worth more than a nice smoke now and then. // gosh darnit. //

my ps told me to quit i did after my first consult bk in may slipped when in ibiza in july too much alcohol lol but since then nothing and feel better for it good luck quitting ladies!!

yes hes the one to ask, not supposed to see him for another 3 months.. // it might be coincidental but at my age (45) and having had a pretty extensive lift (anchor) i think maybe i better err on the side of caution. // though you are right, dr is the one to ask.

just book in early they won't mind xx

I am so glad someone has posted a post about smoking... I was going to a few months ago, but really embarrassed. I smoke about 15 a day, wen i went for my consultation my surgeon obviously gave me a massive lists of reasons to stop smoking, scared the life out of me but hey didnt scare me that much to give up, everyday its a 'Ill do it tomorrow, so on Monday of this week I thought I'd better do it I know Ive got a week to go but its better late than never, so I did OMG Stress aint the word never mind smoking a cig I feel like eating a full twenty pack lol. The problem Ive got is I actually enjoy smoking - as disgusting as it sounds but I do. I like sitting on my back door step with a brew in one hand and a fag in the other once the kids have gone to bed lol sad i know but hey thats me!!! lol.. The nurse I seen at the clinic said to me that if I cant possibly quit if I can get it down to 4 max a day then thats fine. Im just gonna take it one step at a time.



Question? - Why cant you have patches on or chew the gum?

Its probably the close lead up to surgery as you are still putting nicotine into your blood stream.
I found this....

While nicotine will usually clear your system within a day, the byproducts of smoking, namely carbon monoxide and other chemicals in cigarettes, take longer (usually about 2 weeks) to leave the body. These chemicals have been shown to interfere with healing by preventing blood from clotting, slowing down the speed of tissue growth, and inhibiting the body's natural immune system.

I'm down to one fag a day, CLAIREBEAR i totally understand. I do the same, put the kids to bed, sit outside with a cuppa and a fag. Its me time!!! Trying to stop my one a day which is tough as its now routine. But i want my boobies to be fab so i'm going t give it a damn good go!!!!!!
