Re: smoking before your ba!!
I tried to cut down but failed! I smoked the day before my BA (didn't have any on the day), then I was smoking again the day after. In my experience, I was fine. I healed very well smoking didn't affect that atall. It all depends how you feel, if you can quit or cut down alot i'd say go for it. But I find it too hard xx

Re: smoking before your ba!!
I gave up 5 weeks before my op so i wasnt craving around my BA, theres increased risk of infection and cc if you smoke around your op, i would stop 2 weeks before and after or quit if you can

Re: smoking before your ba!!
good for you - I smoked from age 13 and gave up when I got pregnant. I am now a complete anti-smoking nazi!! I mean I REALLY get on peoples nerves waving my hands by my face whilst screwing it up and stuff!! Good thing is my little man has never ever been around smoke and just stares when he does see someone smoking. So unlike me who's parents smoked like chimneys around us - he won't end up with the permanent cough I have!

I am finding it VERY difficult too :(
how about patches? can you use them or is that just as bad as smoking? I'm in a foul mood and only on day 2 of stopping!!

Rachel you know they say after 72 hours the physical craving goes and its just psychological. Patches made my friend feel worse as its such a full on hit of nicotine. I would say as you have done 2 days with nothing and no assistance your doing REALLY WELL! xx

Re: smoking before your ba!!
I stopped 5 weeks before and started about 8 days post op which was so silly of me as i was doing really well.
The gum really works aswell at least it did for me and im a heavy smoker about 15 - 20 a day, its better to be careful most people are fine and heal well but theres always higher risks of CC and infections.
Good Luck with your op! x x

Re: smoking before your ba!!
Thanks peewee :) I didn't realise the craving went after 72 hours, so I've only got about 24 hours left, I'm sure my teenage kids can put up with me for that long! I think they realised this morning that it might be a good idea not to speak to me
Thanks for that, I feel much better now! xx

Re: smoking before your ba!!
also remember hun that craving only last minutes so when you feel it coming on just do something to take your mind of it.
The allan Carr easyway book is really good but you do need to read it a good few times, Natalia has been packed in for ages from using that book x x

Re: smoking before your ba!!
Thats what the sites for hun and dont worry we all get nervous its very normal.
I stopped my Pill was taking ovranette which was the combined pill and they gave me the Mini Pill to take but in the end i didnt take either and have just started my pill again as normal.
The reason they do it is because you are at increased risks of blood clots as you wont be doing much after your op, if your worried about it just ask your surgeon.

Well I am on my journey to find it...Not sure how long the journey will last though
Not very helpful Lauren I know. If you could it is best to quit, and for healing.
I did cut way down, but had one an hour before op.
The pill question, I cant answer. I am on H.R.T. ( a tad older than you) and I was told o.k. to take, also I have a hormone implant.
I really wish I would not reply to these posts sometimes... I dont feel old

Re: smoking before your ba!!
Hi,
Re the pill. I was told that it can heighten the risk of blood clots slightly if you continue to take it but it was my choice if I wanted to carry on taking it. I've chosen to keep taking mine.
With the smoking, a friend of mine told me that the Paul McKenna stop smoking thing is good.
I'm using his make yourself thin book and CD and have lost half a stone in a few weeks

Re: smoking before your ba!!
Well it took a boob job for me to finally quit the habit after unsuccessfully trying to stop for over two years :)
I was using the Nicorette inhalator prior to the surgery, and since I've had my BA i haven't even touched any cigarettes or nicotine replacements!!
I was too scared that I'd mess my healing up because nicotine restricts the bloodflow etc, so I didnt want to chance anything. The first couple of days youre kind of out of it and the last thing you're thinking about is ciggies :)

Re: smoking before your ba!!
HI
I gave up smoking after a 15 year habit. I didnt use nicotine replacement, instead I nibbled on sunflower seeds. Apparantly they send a message to the brain similar to that of smoking! I dont know how true it is but if I can do it then something must have worked. I used to put my seeds in the oven for about 5 mins to give a more crispy and baked taste.

It's true!! They have a chemical in similar to nicotine that the pleasure sensors in the brain really love. My clients used to look at me like I'd grown another head when I suggested this, but for some it really works.
Well done for giving up
