Smoking help please
Hi Everyone,
Struggling very hard with not smoking, i managed two weeks and have broke this weekend. I had a couple on Friday night and had one today. Feel a bit rubbish for it. I am determined to keep trying though, thinking of buying the Alan Carr book which everyone says is good.
Have i already messed it up though, my op is in one month, i really dont want any complications but am worried i have smoked too close to BA. Can anyone tell me the recommended times to give up to put my mind at rest? I didnt smoke for 4 years before and dont know how i managed it, so this wasnt a problem for my last op.
Please help, am a bit worried xx

Re: Smoking help please
Awwww bless you Vix don't worry hun. Some people manage to give up for their OP and some people manage to just cut down how many they smoke. I think i was told that if it was possible then to not smoke for 2weeks before and 2weeks after but different surgeons will say different things.
It was really hard work but i managed to quit with the AlanCarr book(can totally recommend it+i still read it when i feel myself slipping!)in time for my OP.......Just do the very best you can hunnie and you'll be fine!

Re: Smoking help please
Hi hun, I can empathise with you. I was also told 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after and if I really couldn't give it then I shouldn't smoke 24hrs before. I couldn't give up, and I didn't smoke for 24hrs before, but I did cut down to 4 a day from 15 so not too bad.
Re: Smoking help please
im trying so hard to stop too, think the best way is to slowly cut down lucky i still have over 2 months to do this! good luck vix x

Re: Smoking help please
I sympathise with you. I'm glad I don't smoke anymore the only thing that made me stop was when I got pregnant or I still think I'd be smoking today it must be really hard as the more nervous you get the more you turn to the ciggies. If you can't manage it hun just try to cut down as much as you can surely thats better than nothing and you will probably have no problem with refraining afterwards as after your op it will probably be the last thing on your mind. x

Re: Smoking help please
oh hun you are doing well, one or two set backs is not going to kill you just keep trying and if you can't quit altogether then just try to cut back and as misf1 says don't smoke within 24hrs of your op x

Re: Smoking help please
Thanks everyone, you are all so sweet.
I am going to keep trying and see how i get on, will definately use the tip of vitamin c too, thanks Kittie
I think i am just generally very anxious about the whole thing, having nitemares that they wont be able to put any back in and allsorts.
Good luck to everyone else trying to give up too xxx

Re: Smoking help please
Just a quick question everyone; I smoke like under 5 a day. Will that affect the recovery process after my op?

Any amount of nicotine in your body holds the risk of effecting your healing hun, if you can stop it is in your best interest to do so.
Smoking decreases the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream and this can mean that your healing will take longer than a non smoker, it also puts you at a higher risk of capsular contracture and infection. xx
