Smoking and BA Empty Smoking and BA

Post by Twinkled 22nd January 2015, 6:52 am

Has anyone had a BA having recently been a smoker? I have smoked socially for yrs, over the last yr or so it's been more regular. I'm exactly one week off my op and I've only managed one day with no cigarette. I am determined I won't smoke again now but I'm a bit worried that I haven't given up early enough.

Any thoughts or experiences would be good. I'm terrified about the surgery as it is and I hate myself for not just giving up.

I had my BA on 22nd November and I was a 20 a day smoker, I found it really hard. Giving up now is better than not giving up at all. It's so gard because it's the nicotine that can affect healing and can put up the risk of infection and there is nicotine in patches etc. if you type smoking into the search bar at the top there are lots of posts that you can read. My surgeon was aware that I was smoking a e pipe nicotine free and he was pleased I had stopped. It's so hard as it's an addiction. I feel your pain but your boobs are so important. Just follow your surgeons advice every step of the way. We Are alwYs here if you fancy a

What matters most is that you stop now, and keep it up for at least 4wks post op. Smoking thins the blood and hinders healing. What's done is done, so don't worry too much, but if you can give up now, that's better than not at all.

I'm 22days smoke free right now, so right there with you!

Smoking and BA Empty Re: Smoking and BA

There's no point beating yourself up now Twinkled. Today is a new day and just start afresh.

Do keep it in your head every time you even think about having a cigarette that just one cigarette now can hinder your healing. It can slow your healing time up Twinkled in comparison to one who hasn't smoked. It can contribute to possible infection babe and worse still necrosis which is when the skin actually dies.

Those are horrible thoughts aren't they sweetheart and if you can't quite with those thoughts in your head...then nothing's going to help babe.

We can't put enough emphasis on the fact that smoking really can have such a huge impact on healing, but it's really up to you at the end of the day and just how badly you want this and how good you want your final result to be.

If you need our help Twinkled - we're here for you!

If you're craving and need something to occupy your mind to get through it, come on here and have a chat. There's always someone generally around.

Or get yourself a ticker so you can give yourself a pat on the back for each day you've not had a cigarette. And... Get yourself a jar and every time you'd be going the shop for your pack of cigarettes pop the money in the jar and then, when you've done your recovery use the money to treat yourself to your first bras when you can go for your first fittings - you'll have some gorg lingerie in replacement of those those awful fags - what could be better! dance

Hi, no I didn't! The panic of the op made me crave them all the more to be honest.
I will say though, it was a breeze, I had no pain from op, just tightness. I was up and out within 3 hrs and picked my kids up from school which is a short walk.
No nasty ga side effects and a very quick revovery. 3 months post op and it's the best thing I ever did !
Good luck x

Hi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. I have my op on 7th may and I am only down to 4 a day . I know I need to knock them on the head but it is so hard. I have my 2 in the morning then I go all day without one and then fail at night and end up with another 2. Done this for last 2 weeks. I know the importance of it all as well but really struggling with it at the moment. How you doing now knowing your op is Friday ?? Xx
