Are you allowed to keep piercings in under GA?
I was just wondering if they make you take out body piercings when you go in for surgery??
I just had a sudden thought that if I have to take all my piercings out, things could get a bit difficult if I have to take them all out, as I have a few that would require a second set of eyes and hands, and always a pair of forceps to take out and put back in again!!
(Oh, and they are in my ears - for you dirty minded girls who were thinking naughty things!! )
So, do you have to take the out? Or will they let you get away with taping them up or something??
xx

I've been told to remove all piercings and jewellery. They will only let you keep a wedding band on which they will tape up.

I had to remove all my piercings. My belly one was new so I bought an all plastic retainer type of a ring and I was allowed to keep that in it.They were worried about any metels being on you during surgery. The nurse had to be told about the plastic ring and she kept track of it still being in place before and after surgery. It was their policy to record anything you have on your body during surgery was accounted for.It was a safety precaution but I doubt it would have ended up in one of my lift incisions! It would have had a far way to travel!LOL!

Egh, geez, this sounds like it's going to be a bit of a mission!!
For the most part, it'll all be fine. I just have these 2 piercings - one in each ear, which are through awkward parts of the cartilage, and ever since they were put in, they've never been taken out because of the nature of the jewelry and the awkward location of them (I wouldn't be able to angle my head in such a way as to be able to see the holes to put them back in - even with a mirror!).
I guess I'll have to add it to my list of "this to ask / discuss with my PS" and I'll maybe have to get one of the nurses to help me take them out and put them back again afterward for me....
I was really hoping the answer would be that I could have them taped in! That's what I do when I play netball...

When I had my tonsils out I had a few piercings at the time,
I had to remove my tongue stud but was allowed to tape all of the others,
I'm hoping it will be the same this time around as I also can't remove my ear piercings very easily.

I had to take all mines out too, even my tongue bar, I had bought those safety ones (made of rubber) but was still made to take them out.

Oh well.... I'll have to get the nurses to help me take them out and put back in again, anyway... a bit of a hassle, but worth it for the sake of new boobies!!

Really?!? I've never heard of such a thing in my life!!
I'm going to discuss it with my PS at my next consultation, then I guess I'll have a better idea of what he wants me to do about it... maybe I can look into this maternity body jewelery and suggest that!
Thanks! xx

Re: Are you allowed to keep piercings in under GA?
I contacted my dr before surgery and he allowed to keep my navel piercing which was covered with a tape for the op. Had to remove everything else. During latest revision surgery they did allow you to keep wedding band on though although I had taken everything off before I got to the hospital. Just contact your PS and see what their policy is. Good luck.

I took everything out before my weight loss surgery. Didn't want to wake up and have had them removed by someone else. LOL.
I've had a letter saying I can't even wear nail polish on my toes.
