Post by pebbles 16th December 2010, 10:21 am

Hi all. I have my tongue pierced, had it done over 10 yrs ago but have never taken it out only to change it. Im sure I remember being told that is heals up reeeeally quickly.
so
1)Do I have to remove it for surgery
2)If so, will I be able to get it back in after

Piercings? Empty Re: Piercings?

Hi Pebbles,
Your surgeon will use a diathermy machine to make a pocket in your breast it is a machine that uses an electrical current to cut through the tissue. There are two types of diathermy:-
Mono which sends an electric current through the machine into your body and out of a plate which is placed on your body, with this one you can not have any metal piercings in
Then there is
Bi Polar the electrical current is sent down one prong of the probe into the tissue held between the prongs and out the other prong of the probe so with this you can keep your piercings in.
I was awake when I had my BA and I had the Bi Polar Diathermy so was able to keep
my metal Tongue bar in. I would ring your clinic and ask them. Even if you have to take it out it will only be for a day and it won't close up. I have had mine out for 5 days and it
went back in as easy as it came out.
Hope this makes sense
Definitely ring your clinic and ask Hun

Thanks for that. I will give them a call but not bothered about having to take it out as long as it'll go back in. From what you've said and the fact I've had it so long it doesnt seem that'll be a problem.

I took my tongue bar out months ago after having it for 15 yrs! I took out my belly button ring & ear piercings for surgery but didn't want to take out my septum or madonna ones as they are hard to take out let alone get back in! I had to sign a disclosure and tape them up before surgery. But you can't tape a tongue and I can't imagine you can leave it in. Honestly you will get it back in after - they don't heal that fast unless it's only a few months old!

Good luck!

i had to take all of mine out, except i didnt take the one from down there out cos there's no way i could have got it back in after op.you have to take tongue ones out incase theres a prob during surgery ie swallowing your tongue, surgeons arent trained in piercing removal and a tongue clamp doesnt allow for piercings,i have to take mine out on a daily basis for work and it goes back in with a bit of a wiggle
all the best
