Piercings and my BA
Hi girls another little questions that has popped into my head! I have quite a few piercings and the surgeon said to me no metal on the day of the op which is fine. So can i put plastic retainers in? and do u think anyone would notice if i left the downstairs one in?? lol hoping they wont be going near there as its my boobs that need doing nothing else What is the reason they have to be out? Thanks xx

Re: Piercings and my BA
its in case they need to use a defib and it runs the risk of burning you hun
yeh I'd put plastic in, you'll still have to tell them thouygh as they will prob tape them down anyway
I removed my HCH- you've actually just reminded me I need to put it back in!! Think I've spent so much time looking at my boobs I didn't even notice the jewellery wasn't there ha x

Plastic retainers is a great idea and worth investing in if you don't want to lose your piercings. They are only out a short while though so you may get away without.
Do be aware some may still need to be removed such as ears etc but discuss it with the nurse on your day. I was told by my PCC I would have to remove all piercings but on the day the nurse gave me tape for my ears and I just had to remove my tongue bar. x

Re: Piercings and my BA
defibrilator, the thing that shocks your heart to stop so that it starts again.
since Wednesday, it's no drama if it needs re-doing, my piercer usually only charges me for jewellery anyway.
I believe you'll still have to remove your tongue jewellery (think Alice has had hers done, you may want to ask her) as it's a risk for the general anaesthetic.
I had my microdermals taped down and they have been a NIGHTMARE since!! The tape pushed them into my skin then pulled them hard when I removed it, so they've been battered well and truly! Leant back on my beloved V pillow today and one went at a bad angle and came out!!!

The defib will very rarely be used, it's just a precaution. You won't know anything that happens though, GA is funny like that.... You will go to sleep and wake up with perfect boobies! It's as easy as counting to 5 :)
As for any piercings you might lose.... It will be a fair trade off!x

Re: Piercings and my BA
I need to check out mine. I've been wearing a plastic retainer in my tongue for three months as I'm not allowed to have a bar in at work. I got bored of switching between the two but haven't quite made the decision whether to take it out for good, hence wearing the plastic all the time. I've had my belly button done for over 10 years so I'm hoping that I can take it out for surgery and it won't close up as I can't really be bothered to buy plastic.
I guess it I have to take the tongue retainer out (I have feeling you have to in case you accidentally swallow it) and my tongue closes up, that's my decision made for me!

Re: Piercings and my BA
I've only got belly and ears several times, I had to take them all out. The nurse double checked I'd removed everything, and she also said that all genital piercings have to be removed too x

Re: Piercings and my BA
I took out the ones I could, and they put tape over the ones that I couldn't. Plastic retainers are a good idea if you can, though.
I asked my PS the reason why they ask for you to take them out, and he said it's because they use a little electrically charged tool to cauterize the blood vessels while they are operating, and your laid up on a metal table. So the risk is that if the metal in you touches the metal table, while you have that little electrical current running through you, basically your body can become a conductor between the table and the electricity trying to find an earth point! So yeah... you wanna try and make sure that doesn't happen!!
