Advice re: Nipple piercings & piercings in general
Hi,
Just wondering if there is anyone else on here who has body piercings and more specifically, nipple piercings?
I have 13 piercings in total which includes 1 in each nipple.
Am I allowed to keep jewellery in as long as it is PTFE (a type of plastic) and not metal?
Just a bit concerned that my nipple piercings will close up if I am leave them out for too long (or can I still get access to my nipple post surgery?) and I would be gutted to lose them.
Also I have piercings "down there" which I assume I am not going to be able to get to easily post-op and again, I am not sure I am ready to give them up just yet.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thank you!

i had to give up my nipple piercing unfortunatley, yu cant have it in during surgery as they will be stretching your skin around and it would tare...and after, it had closed up. as for other piercings, i took them all out and put them back the next morning :)

Guess I will just have to wait and see then.
Hopefully as I have had them for 7 years they won't close up!
Thanks for answering :-)

Re: Advice re: Nipple piercings & piercings in general
I had my nipples pierced for 10 years and took them out about a year ago and the holes are still open,
I had to remove as many of my piercings as possible which included my Tongue, belly button and ears. I was unable to take out my Tragus, eyebrow or vch so I had to sign a disclaimer and tape them up,
I definately wouldn't have wanted to have nipple piercings in after surgery as they were far too sensitive!
All my piercings went back in fine after surgery too xx

I had to take out as many of mine as possible as well, but there were some I couldn't take up, and they were just taped up so the metal couldn't touch anything by accident.
I think if you put plastic through them all, you'll be fine for any piercings, the nipples might be the only ones that come into question because it's kind of 'in the area' of the operation. As far as they go, I'd just discuss it with you PS and see if the plastic option might be ok. If not, you can always get them re-pierced after if they close up.

I had to take my tongue bar and ear piercings out but was allowed to tape my belly up.
Totally unrealated but it made me laugh, I had a doughnut lift on the side where I had my nipple pierced years ago and I've noticed the hole is vertical now so my nipple must of been twisted around during the op. : s xxx

I had to take my hood piercing out. But managed to get it back in after 3 or 4 days and I had it done only 4 months prior

Re: Advice re: Nipple piercings & piercings in general
Thanks for all the feedback ladies.
I did wonder if my nipple piercings would still face the same way once this was done so thanks for the heads up louise_vaa.
My hood piercing is a nightmare to get in and out and my belly button is new so I might see if I can just tape those up. Ears and nose will be fine and I guess my others will be too.
My BF is not fussed by my piercings so maybe this is the time to let them go? Not sure.
I had a lot of problems with my nipple ones including loss of sensation and I love them so much but I want my boobs back more. Not sure I would be brave enough to have them done again! (plus cos of the scar tissue they won't be able to be in the same place, assuming the orientation doesn't change)

Re: Advice re: Nipple piercings & piercings in general
Hi bronzewolf,
How is your recovery going?
I have 3 consults booked:
22nd Nov Dr Meleagros (Transform)
26th Nov Dr Frati (Harley Medical Group)
29th Nov Dr Malik (Highgate Hospital direct)
I booked to see Dr Frati as two friends recommended HMG and I was told Dr Malik had retired.
I booked Dr Meleagros to get a different opinion and I love nikita's avatar of her new assests and he did hers.
I then managed to track down Dr Malik throught Highgate hospital - I have two friends who had Dr Malik and are over the moon with their results.
Once I have seen all 3 I will make the choice - planning to have them doen 20/21 Jan - can't wait!
Oh and any feedback on any of the above gratefully received!

I too had to take out my piercings, but don't have nipple ones, but I'd def take them out can't imagine the sensitivity you'd feel w/ piercings in there OUCH!
Ask your PS, some are more lenient than others :)
good luck hun!

Re: Advice re: Nipple piercings & piercings in general
I was able to get all of my piercings on the next day...both nipples although I had to wear milking pads in my support bra because of the sensitivity from the nipples/piercings rubbing on it, it was driving me crazy and hella uncomfortable. My tragus, tongue, belly button, and ears I was able to put back in the next day...I've had my piercings for quite some time and was afraid they'd close up for the couple of hours they were to be removed, but surprisingly they didn't, so I think you should be ok. Also, just depends if your boobs are taped down with the strap, or not. I wasn't taped down, just had a super tight sports bra on...good luck!

Aurora - I had a doughnut lift so if your having a normal BA you probably won't find your nipples have rotated. Xx

Re: Advice re: Nipple piercings & piercings in general
Just a quick update having had my first surgeon consult last night:
Nipple piercings must be removed. I can wear PTFE in the other piercings (I have several) but not any type of metal. This is due to the method they use to cauterise the blood vessels which uses a high electric current that will travel through the body and may cause burns at the piercing sites (presumably due to it earthing on the metal).
On the upside Mr Meleagros just covers the incisionsand then I will be wearing a sports bra so I will have access to my nipples so I can put a bar through my nipple each day to keep my piercings open even if I can't wear them for a while :-)

Re: Advice re: Nipple piercings & piercings in general
Hi ladies,
Just another update for you by another surgeon on the back of my second consult.
This surgeon agreed with the first that nipple jewellery had to be removed completely but that I was allowed to wear PTFE in my other piercings unless I had a tongue piercing.
No metal jewellery is allowed due to the risk of burns.
No tongue jewellery is allowed at all as it could be in the anaesthetist's way apparently.
Oh and I am not allowed to put my nipple piercings back in for 3 months due to risk of infection. This I don't understand. The site of the piercing is a healed tube of skin that has been there for 8 years, The flexible bar I plan to push through the piercing every day to keep it open can be sterilised by boiling in water. My hands will be clean with anti-bacterial gel, where is the risk?
Anyway, again this is the opnion of one surgeon, so make sure you check with your surgeon.

I think I'll try a nose piercing before a nipple one.
