Pre BA check ups - blood test not done?!
Hi girlies, has anyone had any blood tests done during the Pre op or perhaps on the BA day?
What if I have some allergies to some meds they use for GA that I obviously don't know about? What if I have unusual blood count? Many what ifs.
If it normal that blood tests aren't taken before GA?
I'm getting worried now. Really worried.
I got asked questions like whether I am a diabetic or on any meds and that was it.
Anyone else had any in depth Pre ops?
Thanks lovelies ((( oooohh I'm nervous

Re: Pre BA check ups - blood test not done?!
Hi Minxy, I went with BMI and I had 2 blood tests done - one at my pre op and another on the day. I had a very in depth pre op which took an hour and a half. They checked my medical history, height, weight, blood pressure, temperature and oxygen levels, and I had a blood test, urine test and mrsa swabs. Most girls only have their medical history and height/weight checked though. If you're worried maybe you can give them a call and see if they'll do a blood test for you. I felt very safe knowing that they had done so much to make sure I'd be OK for the op. Xx

Re: Pre BA check ups - blood test not done?!
I didnt have to have a blood test before mine hun, its only if you have certian conditions which they will know about by the answers you give to the MANY questions they ask you ha ha
Try to relax they know what they're doing, they dont want to put you at risk any more than you do. If you ARE concerned about something my advice is go to your GP and ask them if there is anything you should inform the clinic of - they are the ones who have your medical records and know you best. I had to do this as had couple of 'issues' i needed checked on :)

Re: Pre BA check ups - blood test not done?!
Hi hon. I am also going with BMI (tomorrow) but my hospital don't do a pre op until the day. I would imagine they will take bloods etc then to check blood group and whatever else. I think it is quite common for them to leave the pre op until the morning of the op - and bloods are usually part of it. Try not to stress too much hon x

So are they going to do some tests on the day?
Thanks chickens, your support is precious, you calmed me down a bit but I'm still concerned. Will talk to my clinic again today and ask them what they are going to do on the day

Re: Pre BA check ups - blood test not done?!
Hey hun. I didnt have to have any blood tests at my pre-op or on the day. I think they only take blood if you have certain medical conditions. I was very straight forward, dont drink, dont smoke, not been hospitalised in last 6 months (that question because or MRSA), no family history of medical conditions etc. As long as you answer your medical questions as typical 'text book' i dont think they feel a need to check your blood.
I think it also just varies on place to place.

Sometimes you have a blood test so they can find out your blood group. I have had that with other operations but not sure if they do it for BA x
