Gym?exercise use with implants Empty Gym?exercise use with implants

Post by Claire300 29th June 2011, 11:12 am

I am told that if i go ahead with implants I will have to change my lifestyle. I currently box and knew I would have to stop competeing and sparring but wanted to continue with the fitness and pads side of things but the consultant said that normal gym use is fine but alot of upper body work doinmg the same exercises may cause problems due to the muscles contracting the implants as he recommends I have unders due to my small frame.

What have other people been recommened in terms of exercise with implants?

Thanks

I'm also worried about this, I climb and do pole fitness and was told not to do with of them for 2-3 months afterwards but I'm going to walk loads as soon as I can and then go back to gental exercise as soon as I'm allowed. I guess around 6 weeks. I was thinking about doing light weights to help strengthen my muscles. I guess we're just going to have to play it by ear when we're recovering. It's taken me a long time to get fit and lose weight so I'm hoping I won't go back to my old ways! My boyfriend is under strict instructions not to let me get fat while I'm recovering!! He he! Good luck with it all!! Xx

plleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee tell me this isnt the case Gym?exercise use with implants 267328

I had unders nearly 4 weeks ago and i am a gym bunny. I love running and i often do a kettlebell class and a spin class also. I lift some light weights but nothing major??? Im hoping that after 8 weeks i can get back to normal again. I feel so lazy not doing my intense workout.

I have been to the gym this week, walking on treadmill and also on the spin bikes and doing a few sit ups...Just want to run again and get really sweaty

surely its possible to do intense workouts with unders hey?? xxx

My pole instructor has unders and she's amazing, it requires a lot of upper body strength and she doesn't have any trouble so we should be ok. Just build up slowly I'd imagine! I think giving up exercise for 6 weeks is the thing i'm going to find the hardest! It'll be worth it in the long run! xx

Iv never had any problems doing any fitness workouts with my implants, including horse riding and pretty heavy weights. I left it at least 2 months to exercise again though and I have overs so might make a difference

Thanks for the replies.
The PS consultant I had a consultation with told me that I would need to change my lifestyle to minimise risks and to be happy with my implants. I do alot of push ups over 100 a week and alot of upper body work and he said I would have to cut down. I really hope that I can still do a fair amount!!

If you do a lot of upper body work it is recommended that you have over the muscle implants. If this is not possible then reducing the risk of your muscle pushing the implant from under it causing complications they would want you to reduce the upper body training. However it does not mean you cant do any exercise.

i am a cheerleader and cheerleader coach, n do a lot of stunting, n carrying of girls above my head, which really uses my chest muscles. We also throw people n then catch them, which sometimes impacts the chest if the girl comes down funny. I am yet to get back into it all, but have done some above the head stunting and normal gymnastics etc...im hoping mine will be ok, cos it will be hard to give up. i am partials

I do pretty heavy weight workouts with my personal trainer, and my PS told me at least 6 weeks for normal exercise then introduce weights again gradually.

I have to admit I'm scared to death of lifting weights at the moment, but really feeling the effects of not going to the gym for the last 6 weeks.

I think I'll talk to my PS again next week at my check up and clarify things x

I went back to the gym two weeks after my op and used the cross trainer (without arms) and the bike, I did check with the nurse that it was ok to do so. The advice I was given and I know each clinic gives different advice was that I was ok to do lower body workouts and to wait until my six week check before lifting any weights.

I'm glad I was able to do something at the gym as I don't think I could of coped for six weeks without exercise!!! x

Yes It will be hard but I guess I will just stay off the upper body at first and then gradually start to introduce in but cut down on what I was doing before to begin with.

i stopped doing upper body work after my unders. I could still do it, but it made my boobs feel weird.
I still exercise a lot and do distance running 4 times a week.
If youve got the breast tissue for overs, then have them if you can. Might be worth getting more than one opinion. I didnt have the tissue for them and love my unders, but overs are much less complicated if you can get away with them.

My PS has told me that he thinks because I want a natural look an dont have that much tissue especially at the top of my breasts, that I would be unhappy with overs but that they would be better for upper body exercise...

I started back at the gym about 6 weeks after my BA but due to other issues didn’t get back into full on training. For the last 3 months I am gradually getting back to what I was pre BA. I do chest once a week. Cable, incline chest press, arnie press, military press, push ups, TRX just to name a few at first I was sore and thought I had hurt myself but then realised that I was sore because I hadn’t trained chest for a long time. It all depending on the person don’t rule anything out until your 10% healed then go with your body. I know so many girls with unders that compete and the only issue they have is when they diet down and flex it distorts the implant
