Re: Exercise after BA
I haven’t had my BA yet, but I manage a health club.
Our insurance clearly states that we need a doctor’s consent if someone wishes to return to the club before 6 weeks after having a GA.
My fitness staff have advised me that no classes for those 6 weeks and then start off slow again, doing one gentle one to start with and see how I feel for 2-3days after it before attempting another.
Just out of interest what classes do you do? A spinning class would probably be advised over the likes of a body pump.
I would check the policies with your own gym/club to see their advice.

Re: Exercise after BA
Hi Karen,
Im really into my exercise also and do a few classes a week and run 5/10k's a few times a year, infact ive just signed up to next years manchester 10k this morning!! Its killing me not training!
Im about 5 and a half weeks post op, and as yet dont feel i could do an awful lot in the gym! I tried a little jog over the weekend and it didnt feel right!! Im going to start off very slowly and build myself back up! I wouldnt rush getting back into fitness.
I know how horrible it is, i jumped on the scales and an extra 9lbs has arrived from somewhere becasue ive not been training, but still eating the same! And its really annoying, but in my mind im dying to get back in the gym and on the track but my body is telling me different.
Its slightly depressing knowing i cant go at the minute, but id rather wait and not ruin the new additions or do some damage!! xx

Re: Exercise after BA
You're not going to be able to excercise till you're 6 weeks post-op hunni.
Initially after my BA I did gain 5lbs, this was just from bloating from the GA as well as being sat on my backside for 2 weeks gorging on biscuits LOL.
I soon dropped the weight as soon as I felt well enough to start walking, I just walked everywhere as well as maintaining a healthy diet and I was just fine, absolutely no weight gain, I didn't gain a pound when my recovery period was over. xx

Re: Exercise after BA
hey i do about 14 classes a week and jogging am totally addicted to the gym so doing no exercise was a killer 4 me. i went back to the gym after 4 weeks and just did spin classes although i did no standing up and limited my upper body movemnet as much as i could and also wore two shockers abosbers and could hardly breathe lol i tried jogging at 6 weeks and it didnt feel right so just carried on with spin. after 8 weeks i went bak to step and tried body pump i had to take al my weights right down to basic level and missed out the chest track and also press ups were and stil are a no go!! just take it easy and be careful only u no how u feel but just remember even though you might feel ok at around 3weeks your body is still healing and needs the time to get you back to normal xx

Re: Exercise after BA
Thanks Tillie, I was doing 9 a week but have just brought it down to 5 as I was getting a bit obsessed lol.
So I am now doing:
Tues - Spinning
Thurs - Bums&Tums then Body Pump
Sat - Body Attack & Body Balance
I presume it will be quite a while after before I can do Body Attack again lol.
Charls, how much of the 9lbs is your new boobs though lol. I know I am going to be the same as you but we just have to remeber that we are doign it for a brilliant reason and we can soon get back into exercise but this is the only way we will get bigger boobs lol x

Re: Exercise after BA
Just make sure you inform your gym that you have had an op. You do not have to disclose what, but in the event of anything happening and you havent puy it on your medical consent, you will not be cover by their insurance. :heehee:
Karen1982.... I think you would be best leaving attack for a while yet lol. I would even be careful with pump. Keeps the weights real low for the 1st few times.
