Re: Scrared of procedure
im sure a lot of people here know a lot more about this than i do, but actually i kind of think a lot of the risks from anesthesia come from previous health conditons... i dont think this procedure is by itself very dangrous. i think just make sure they know about all of your pre-existing health conditions, if you smoke, make sure they know any allergies meds you take etc etc.. if you are concerned about their record with complications and stuff im sure you can ask them straight out if they have had any and what happened. dont be scared i think its pretty normal to worry some about the anesthesia.

I am scared ofthe GA too hun. I cry every time! (I have had 4 GA's now) Of course ther are risks, but so few people have complications. Try not to worry yourself. The more you think about it, the worse it will seem. It is over with so quickly, you will wake up and wonder why you worried. x

Re: Scrared of procedure
Hi Sweetie
Oh bless you for this and I know how you feel. I've had 4 GA's as well now and 3 boob jobs!!!!!! I was worried about dying but I had a really good chat with my man (the one who does the GA side of the op) as I was very sick after the last one (10 years ago). He told me that GA's have advanced so very much over the past 10 years and it's much purer now. Also technology is amazing and as long as they are aware of any underlying health problems there really is not much chance of anything going wrong. (I have high blood pressure). Well I gotta tell ya hun I loved the GA this time, I was straight to sleep, woke up quickly, didn't feel sick, had the best afternoon of snoozing EVER, had a really good nights sleep that night and I have recovered amazingly well. You will be so totally fine I would bet my boobs on it (and that's worth more than any money)

Re: Scrared of procedure
Yeah me too Yetti I had a much better experience than last time I had a GA (10+ years ago)
Aw Melodyv the anaesthetists know what they are doing, they are soooo clever its is really VERY rare that things go wrong with anaesthetic these days like Yetti says is usually due to underlying health problem (Im at high risk of blood clot but i was fine) thats what your pre-op appointment is for they ask you SOOOO many questions to make sure. Make sure you answer HONESTLY re smoking/drinking/drug taking as this is how they work out how much to use (i have made this mistake previously)
What i did, and would highly recommend this to you to put your mind at rest, was to go to my GP tell him what i was doing and ask if i should have any problems :) he will reassure you then you'll feel much better x x

Re: Scrared of procedure
One peice of advice I can really offer...if you are a smoker then quit before if you can. I stopped in Feb in preparation for my op and I'm so glad I did. I've healed amazingly well and I feel so healthy and fit and had I been a smoker actually don't think my surgeon would have touched me with a barge poll (especially with my high blood pressure)

Re: Scrared of procedure
Wasn't easy hun and I was v lucky that my wonderful bf (who loves smoking) quit himself to lead the way. We both still miss it occassionally but we both still love our new smoking free lives :-) We also both look about 5 years younger which is totally amazing! I wake up now with bright blue eyes rather than bloody shot tired looking eyes!

Re: Scrared of procedure
Well hopefully if Melodyv is a smoker she can see from here that it IS possible to quit :-) (well done too janeybird).
The moral here is Melodyv, be honest with your medical people and do everything in your own power to be fit and healthy in preparation for the recovery :-) xx

Re: Scrared of procedure
Be sure to be honest when tell your surgeon/clinic your health history, so that any pre-op tests that may be needed before proceeding with the operation can be done and you can be confirmed fit for surgery.
A lot of the larger clinics hospitals in the UK aren't equipped to operate on people with a serious health condition that might cause complications when you're in theatre, if you have a complication that might cause problems these clinics will refuse you surgery as they do not have a high dependancy unit at the hospital.
I've known a couple of women who found BMI were one of the only hospitals equipped to deal with such a eventuality.
So it's VERY important that you're honest with your health history.
Ensure you researched both the surgeon/clinic and the hospitial and KNOW 100% that they are fully qualified to operate on you before you have your op.
If you're sure and happy that you're in good hands, all will be just fine sweetness, it's over and done with in no time at all. xx

Re: Scrared of procedure
I can only back up what the others have said. I too enjoyed my GA, I was worried sick about it, but after I had no idea why I was so worried.
Please don't let this put you off having your BA, just do your homework on your PS etc and all will be fine.
xx
p.s. I too have quit smoking, only by 3 weeks. I only had 2 weeks notice of my op and 2 weeks of complete work stress before but managed to go cold turkey 2 days before op and havent smoked since.

haha so glad you're feeling better!! i also smoked cigarettes -verrrrrrry- rarely on a social basis (roll your own) and i also quit for this and it wasn't hard. so just wanted to say that i also use medical cannabis, (legally for nausea) and i also quit that temporarily, (still quit) and it also wasn't hard at all (depends what you use it for if guess) but when i was talking to my dr about all this stuff i didn't even mention the cannabis at first cause i had already quit anyhow but we were talking about the smoking and he looked straight at me and said "i dont care if you smoke dope just NO TOBACCO!" which surprised me. he said people who smoke tobacco have a much harder time heaing their skin and almost showed me pics but i believed him. so i quit smoking everything anyhow just to be safe.
so at least with my dr and he is a very good dr he was personally a lot more concerned about the tobacco. i think smoking anything reduces oxygen to your system and thast why its easier to heal when not smoking anything but i think there might be slightly less toxins/chemicals in cannabis... ?? super good luck i hope everything goes really well

Re: Scrared of procedure
Oh sweetie please don't worry! If anything, you should research your office/doctor thoroughly and this will calm your fears. After I had my BA I was like, "Oh wow, that wasn't a big deal at all", my back hurt more than my breasts after the surgery! =) Make sure your PS is experienced. My PS has been doing surgeries for 15 years, I'm sure there are a lot of other factors that make a reliable surgeon, but that's something you should research on your own to make sure you feel safe. Everything will be fine and the anesthesia last just as long as when you get your wisdom teeth pulled out (if you've down that). When you wake up you're in a little of a daze, a little sore, but you just sleep it off and feel a little sore for the next few days and after that you are perfectly FINE. I had mine done the week of spring break during school! I went back to school 6 days later and no one noticed and I was learning and studying as soon as I got back. Don't worry too much, it's not that bad, just do your research on your surgeon! Best of luck!
Re: Scrared of procedure

Re: Scrared of procedure
I too was more worried about GA than the actual op! When it came to it, I woke up and not only felt no pain, but totally no sickness AND bizarrely like I'd had such a fantastic sleep - felt pin sharp like never before (seriously, could have done the flippin' Times' crossword for a change LOL). No recollection of dreams whatsoever.
Please don't chew yourself up over this, I too had read about people not coming round - but there is underlying health issues to consider.
Stay focussed on the end result, and have someone go with you for some support - you will be fine and back posting to us all here within a few hours of your op I'm sure

forgot to add - the only tragedy on my op day was the paper knickers and the surgical stockings I was made to wear ..

yes i was pretty surprised......^^ i guess i live in a place where smoking is pretty accepted (oregon) and ive found a lot of the professionals here are really very acepting of it. actually it was very funny when i was actually in the hospital, the nurse was sitting with me and chatting and somehow we were talking about the fact i had a head injury which is why i use it.. and she started chatting away that her daughter also used it for that and it really helped her, and that her elderly mom was in the hospital and had no appetite and so she was thinking of giving some to her mom.. omg. my bf and i were just falling over laughing hearing that. i had a pretty wild surgery day if you want to check out my story its in 'ba stories'..
also. a lot of people are talking about how the GA makes them have a good sleep. i asked the anesthesia guy about the stuff he was using and he said it was the same stuff that michael jackson was using to sleep with. // obviously that should never ever ever ever be used that way without a dr always there, but maybe thats why people say it makes them feel rested. just some trivia :}} anyway just be aware it really seems almost everyone goes through a time of considering possible bad outcomes of anesthesia, i sure did, i mean its like universal and just shows youre being sensible so dont get too stressed over it. //

Oh don't worry too much about going under, I had 2 surgeries total one of my knee and my boobs. When they tried to wake me up I felt like I was just in a deep sleep and woke up all smiling esp right after I saw my boobs. It wasn't too bad at all just felt tight and sore but it wasn't nothing that I can handle. I think you will do great
