Massaging and advice
Hello
Just reading through a few posts and even though I was told briefly to do so I haven't massaged or anything at all... is this very important? At first I was too sore now at 4 weeks I guess I just felt better so didn't think about doing it now I'm worried I've ruined my final look!! *arghh* they are still quite high/hard - maybe this is why? Although I know I'm due for a lot more changes and 4 weeks hasn't been that long yet. I'm I worrying for no reason?
Any thought ladies... xx

Re: Massaging and advice
Thoughts of mine..... First of all, follow your surgeon's advice. Even if it was brief. There could be very specific reasons they tell you to do or not do a certain thing and maybe the next person won't be told that at all.....
That said, I wouldn't worry because if it was highly important I would think your PS would make SURE you knew when, how and how much to do it and would have emphasized it. Think about the instructions regarding lifting and reaching and soaking your incisions: those got written down and stated and RESTATED at least to me, because they were of utmost importance. I have heard all sorts of things about massaging and one thing I have heard a lot:if you do it, start it after the pain and swelling have subsided. So maybe you can relax about not having done it a lot right away, you probably should have waited a little while anyway. Some surgeons don't advise it at all.... Some leave it optional..... Sounds like yours recommends it but wasn't highly concerned about it or he would have been very particular.
Again, do what your dr tells you, amybe start right now? I don't think you could have ruined anything! You are only 4 weeks post op, which leaves plenty of healing time for massaging I think. I am sure ladies who have done the massage will come along and reassure you the same. ((((HUGS)))) honey!

I was told not to massage my boobs, just scars. All PS advise differently, follow your PS advice for your boobs.

Re: Massaging and advice
The new generation implants used today don't need to be massaged - However in saying that, some women will be advised to massage for specific reasons, I was advised to massage because I had a stubborn boobie and needed to massage to encourage the implant to come down and settle into place, others might be encouraged to massage due to early signs of capsular contracture - I'm not saying for a moment you have either of these complications Betty_Boob, you should really call your clinic though and ask your surgeon the reasons he/she suggested massage and the benefits you'll get from it as you didn't understand when you were instructed to do massage.
As Java said, you should follow YOUR surgeons advice sweetness, you'll
read so much conficting advice when comparing your recovery to that of
others, but it's only your own surgeon you should listen to babe, after
all, it's their advice you paid for, not anyone elses surgeon! xx

Re: Massaging and advice
Betty_B,
I was told to massage after 1 week but it was mainly gentle pushing it form the outside inwards and from the bottom up, I asked why and the PS sugeon said that my muscles were a bit tight and the implant needed to to fall in place or something like that. Initially I was only seeing the nurse and she didn't mention anything about it but the PS said he wanted to see me specfically to tell me that so I'm assuming it could just be my subborn muscles.
But as most girls here said, just listen to your PS he'll know what's best.

Re: Massaging and advice
I'm sure you have not ruined your result, I didn't have to massage, but I'd just give it a go now if your PS suggested you do it. At 4 weeks mine were high and hard as a rock, they will settle just give it a few more months.
Re: Massaging and advice
Thank you girls - as always, for your advise.
I have been massaging when I get out the shower now and using a scar cream on the scars. Feeling better but I agree with it ot dong much - it may have softened them a bit or that may have happened naturally. I'm no weaing a bra now for bed so this may have helped them drop and soften a bit too.
Still - thank you for all the advise. I've taken it all on board :flowers:

Re: Massaging and advice
Sammi - don't worry. My surgeon briefly mentioned massaging but it didn't sound like too big a deal. I couldn't think about massaging for a while because it was too sore but after a while I just rubbed aqueous or e45 cream on - including the scars. I think I started using Bio Oil after 2 weeks or so so I'd say it'd be fine to use it now. Having said that if your worried - give them a call :) xx
