Being honest about giving up smoking?
I only booked my BA 2 weeks ago and I was told to give up smoking straight away as my BA date is in 5 days now. I have honestly cut down prob have only about half a cigarette a day now.
Should I tell my PS, cos I heard that some of them won't perform on you AT ALL if they hear you've been smoking and it's not like I've been puffing on 50 a day...
What do you think?

I think you need to be honest sweetheart - the anaesthetist might have to make some fine tuning to compensate for this. I was with THG and had managed to cut it back to around 3 a day before surgery - and I told them this and it wasn't a problem for them.

I'm having the same issue. I smoke about 5 rollies a day and have tried to quit but am failing miserably. My pre op nurse told me that if I just cut down I should be ok.
4 DAYS TO GO NOW!!!

RE: being honest about giving up smoking
my ps asked me to try and quit 2 weeks before ba i had already cut down to 5 a day i got down to 3 a day told anaestestist this and he was fine with it. i think its best to be honest so you get right cocktail of drugs. still smoking 3 a day hope this does not slow healing to much

Re: Being honest about giving up smoking?
Well ladies today is my first day of cutting down I will be honest with you ladies I smoke about 20 a day, I have been up since 6am and I have had 6 fags today so not to bad in my eyes. I have bought normal mints and gum to help me and so far its helped however when I have a cup of tea I just so want to light up grrrrr.
I dont want to just quit cold turkey style so cutting back is my first step, then cut back bit more etc etc untill no more smoking at all, I have a month before BA and hoping to be down to 3 or 0 by then. I think this is achievable for me but everyone is different. I want to wish every lady who is trying to cut down or quit the very best of luck. It is one of the hardest things for me x

Oh god the downside of not smoking :-( I've put on about 4 pounds of weight and I'm only small so it really notices. I keep eating everything and anything....my dog had an operation last week and had a small scab on his side and I found myself looking at it and wondering if I dip in it some sweet chilli sauce that it might be quite yummy

Scabs are full of nutrients! Haha... Not sure it would be a nice texture though!! But do let us know! Haha!

Re: Being honest about giving up smoking?
Perfectly acceptable hun
Since I stopped 5 weeks ago I've put on 10lbs and I'm now killing myself in the gym trying to lose them - so I'm going to be dead either way, from smoking or overworking myself in the gym. There seems to be no escape. I must admit I've had a few lapses (mainly cos I had a stash of nicotine gum in my cupboard) during that five weeks, but I also did have around 10 ciggies during that time too - but this last week I haven't had nicotine from anywhere

Well done Carol, it will be worth it. I've not had any lapses this week and I've missed it but I'm so determined to quit for good. I look better already.....even though I've got a dodgy fringe xxxx

Re: Being honest about giving up smoking?
You'll need to be honest about how many you're smoking. If it comes out and you have problems afterwards (we all know smoking can cause problems with healing, CC etc) they can void your aftercare. So you could end up with complications and having to shell out in private treatments, hospital fees etc.
At the end of the day, you're paying so much money to have this op and it is invasive surgery. I know I didn't want anything, and I mean anything to compromise my body, my boobs or my health.
