Boob jobs and giving blood?
Hi ladies.
As some of you may know, I'm having my surgery in September but would like to give blood in a few weeks. I dont know if there would be any reason why I couldn't give blood, seeing that I have a couple months to go before I'll be having my surgery but does anyone know of any information or advice before I go ahead and sign up to give blood on this date?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
I just checked through the reasons why you wouldn't be able to give blood HERE and there absolutely nothing there to suggest you're unable to donate if you have surgery planned in the near future. Xx
Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Never even thought of that Yolanda... A pint sounds a lot!
Just had a look at that link cookie posted and it seems ok? xx

Just thought I'd add too that it'll be 4 months after you have surgery you can go back to giving blood regularly! Xx

Its for reasons like that, that I give blood! More people should do it really, none of that guff about being scared of needles- its a doddle! lol

Yes, I saw that too, I'm more worried about now than after as I wouldn't want to rush into anything to try and give blood soon after my op. My healing is more important and I have many years of giving blood to make up for when im healing and cannot give any.

A year and a half! That's a long old time to wait.
Thanks for all your comments. x

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Its a little nerve wracking sure but the overall experience is fine. Just a nick on a finger so they can test your iron levels before giving blood. That's a little sharp pain but over very quickly and then you forget about it and the giving blood part is fine. Again its a little nick. Can be annoying if they find it difficult finding a vain (its not too common so don't worry)
I always watch the whole thing as I'm very curious as to how they do it.
The best bit is all the free sweets and crisps afterwards!!!!
I always touch the pipe as its warmed up by your blood and its very interesting and strange to think that you blood can be stored and used for good.

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
It's such a great thing to do, I used to donate a lot, think I've done 9 pints. No reason you can't do it before your op, although you won't be able to for a little while after. I'm O negative and although it's not a rare rare type only 7% have this type and it's always well used. If you're one of the rare types they'll be begging for your donations.

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Im O neg. Aint allowed to give blood till ive either had kids or im 30 as I had reaction last year and collapsed outside. I'll point out though that I had given blood 10times before this but had started my diet and had cut out sugary things x

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Im unable to give blood because of my auto immune disorder and the medication I take. Xx
Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
I can't give it anymore either cookie, but I hope it helped when I did.
Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
I'm sure it did. All my family have always donated. I don't know why but I always felt guilt because I couldn't. I know I shouldn't, but you do feel kinda useless. Well I do. Stupid I know but its just how I feel. Even reading this thread made me feel bad lol. Xx
Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Cookie, You shouldn't feel useless. Look how much time you donate here, you help people all the time.
