Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
I would love to give blood. I am the dodgy O Neg blood type and I know they are desperate for it. But I'm so scared of doing it! Can anyone tell me if it hurts? And how long it takes?

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
I'm O negative rhesus, only 7% of the population have my blood type lol I call it gold running through my veins. My dear mother calls her blood dishwater lol! Cookie your so important here!!!
It's a tiny scratch and you can't see anything because your lying down. It doesn't hurt after the initial scratch, mines only takes about 7-10 minutes, you do get a cut off point though which ive done once, thinking its about 15 minutes. Good luck Jennifer you'll definitely feel a sense of pride!
I wear my 10 donation badge with pride xx

Is that all that has our blood group? 7%? Wow. Ok so if its only 15 mins of my time and doesn't hurt, I have to give it a go don't I! What's the minimum weight limit? X I'm 8st 11.

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
I've only given blood once I had a horrible experience I fainted straight away and felt really rough but I was just saying to Tink on fb I don't think I should have been allowed as the pin ***naughty word*** test came back as anaemic. I do feel bad and sometimes think I should try again cos I'm a rare blood type too but its scared me pretty bad. Im on the organ donor register tho and give to cancer research when I can. Saving lives in different ways :)

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Blood donation is so so important and its a big thank you from me to all of you that donate. My late husband had to have weekly donations for 3 months before he died because his bone cancer meant he did nt make enough blood so its only because of transfusions he had an extra precious 3 months with us. I am a regular donor and my middle son who is only 17 has his first appointment to donate with me in a couple of weeks. I am very proud of him, there are not many youngsters who do it,in fact only 4% of the population do it so come girls give it a go, it really does nt hurt and you never know if one day you or some one in your family might need blood. xxx

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
4% of the population give blood? Is that all? I've got to say I'm shocked at that figure. My main reason for wanting to gove blood is, My sister in law has noonans syndrome and heart defects and has had to have blood transfusions several times during open heart surgery, without this she would have died!

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Yes Lisa, only 4%. Thats very poor. I can some times get on my high horse with people who say they dont want to donate but then would be happy to accept a transfusion should they or a family member we ill or in an accident !!!xxx

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
yolanda thank you so much for starting this thread, an important topic which i have wondered about before!
my surgery is this friday and i was wondering how long it is before i can donate blood again as i am a regular donor, have done it 4 times now, and it gets so much easier every time!
hexxi thank you so much for pointing out that its 4 months after surgery.
well done first time donors lisa and jen, great decision! you will be fine, the staff are always so lovely, look after you and are always really grateful.
one bit of advice: make sure you eat well beforehand, your body needs that energy!
my very first donation was a really hot august day in germany and i had only had a very light breakfast and felt a bit dizzy afterwards.
ever since i've made sure i eat well beforehand.
i also always take a book so i have something to concentrate on.
make sure you follow the staff's instructions and leaflets like drinking a pint of water when you get there which they will give you. just make sure you don't have to pee while you're stuck donating, it has happened to me before lol!!!
also they recommend moving your legs etc, and you'll be absolutely fine!!
and its so worth it and feels great.
like nicole i am also on the organ donor register and also pointed that out to my pcc and surgeon lol x

Re: Boob jobs and giving blood?
Good news Jenniferr1, its great that your doing this and I promise you shouldn't be worried about it. Its the thought of it that is worse than the actual experience for most people.
Good to hear of some fellow blood donors on here lol.
Keep up the good work girls.
