how long til i can lift arms above head?
Hi everyone,
have got ba booked for 15th march and have been thinking about what i need to get so i am all ready for the big day.
I know i will need button/zip up tops because i wont be able to lift my arms above my head. How long will this last so I can work out how many of these sort of tops I'll need?
thanks girls.x

I only wore zip up tops for a few days, after that I was able to get my arms into a top, you dont really have to lift your arms very high to get tops on unless they are super tight. I'd say prepare for at least 3 or 4 days.

I'd say a week. Are u having unders or overs? You won't be able to reach up to high cupboards either so make sure u move anything from high shelves down. A friend of mine who had hers done ages ago suggested using wooden spoons to open kitchen cupboards which was quite a good tip!

I had unders and it took me about a week to be able to put my arms up and get a shirt on all on my own. I was still a lil sore though.

I had unders and could also pretty much do everything straight after recovery. I sat up in bed unassisted straight away to eat my late lunch. I blow dried my fringe in hospital the following morning and just stepped into a stretchy singlet top, put on a cardigan and pulled my jeans on. I think my Mum did the button up on my jeans as I didn't have the strength haha. I didn't reach up high or stretch too far a while.
Everyone is different but your body tells you what you can and cant do. I went back to work on a mining site (admin work) on day 8 working 12 hour shifts but I didn't lift anything heavy. I also didn't drive until day 11 just in case....we have 4WDs at work.
I agree, prepare for a few days.

Re: how long til i can lift arms above head?
Hi hun, Im 5 days post BA with overs and I'm still not moving my arms above the elbow. My PS suggested I don't lift arms for 10-14 days after, to ensure minimal bruising and allow the implant to settle into place. I can honestly say I've not been in any pain but I think that's because I've taken it easy and not left the house yet! I think your body will tell you when ur ready, everyone is different but for now I'm sticking to zip up tops!
Hope that helps

My first time I was a wreck for the first few days, this time I could probobly do it, but I had my boyfriend get in the shower with me to wash my har and he even had to brush and dry it after. I am able to wear loose shirts with some help getting them on and I am trying to keep my arms close to my sides.

thanks for your tips and advice girls.
I will prepare for a week of no lifting arms but hopefully it won't take that long. just want to get all these little questions out of the way before the big day.
