Surgery preparation!!
Hi chicks,
just thought i would ask the ladies who have had their ba's, what sort of preparation is needed before surgery.
Is fake tan a no no before surgery, should i stop about a week before? or could i get away with tanning everywhere except boobie area..
Is it best to not shave anywhere for 1 week before surgery and then shave on the day of surgery to prevent ingrowing hairs? (ive read this somewhere) as they can cause bacteria.
shower on the day? or night before? no lotions or creams is that right?
How many bras to take?
Could I be there all day before i get called up for the procedure? whats the longest anyone has had to wait?
Should I let hubby stay or send him home, personal choice i know, i was going to send him home, but he wants to stay, dilemma!!!!
If i have missed anything off here that you would like to share, please do, all advice is gratefully received
thanks xx

Re: Surgery preparation!!
I would say no fake tan about a week before.
Shaving - I would shave everywhere the day before your ba, particually underarms as you wont be able to shave there for a while.
Deffinatly no creams or lotions the day or day before your BA, but that will all depend when you have your last shower so either the night before or the day of surgery, also no deoderent on the day of surgery.
I took a selection of bra sizes about 3 I think in different backs aswell to allow for the swelling.
I went alone so cant advise if you to let your hubby stay or not, but it can be a wait. I had to be at the highgate for 8am but didnt have surgery till after lunch. Tke magazines or a good book. Depending on the hospital you will problies have a TV too.
Hope this helps. xx

Re: Surgery preparation!!
I think PB has given great advice there, the only thing I'll add is to make sure you put all the things you might need for the first week or so on shelfs or worktops that are below chest level. I found I wasn't able to lift up my arms to get anything PO, at least for a while so this advice was given to me and I found it very helpful!
Also, it may be a good idea to cook some food and freeze it in tuperware, you will need all the rest you can get PO, so this i'm sure will make things easier, especially if your the cook in the house!
My OH stayed in the hospital with me all day and left about 9.30pm when the night staff came on. He wanted to stay and I wanted him too as well. He then came back the next morning at 7am.

Re: Surgery preparation!!
Good advice from the girls. I can't add anything, other than my oh did my head in and I sent him home and he came back to get me then looked after me.
Re: Surgery preparation!!
I showered the night before with Hibiscrub (antibacterial wash) and showered again on the morning of my surgery, again in Hibiscrub. (I'd already had my armpits and legs waxed a couple of days before so I didn't have to worry about those for a while. xxx
Re: Surgery preparation!!
I showered and shaved on the morning of my surgery and used deodorant as I wasn't told not to, I wouldn't use any other creams or lotions on your body though.
I took about 6 bras! I really didn't know what size I was going to be so I just got a selection of cheap Primark bras until I had a better idea of the sizing.
My check in time was 7.15am at the hospital and was supposed to go down for surgery at 11.00ish but that got moved forward to first on the list at 8.30am so you might have a bit of a wait, but you can usually find out when you arrive.
Some people cope better by going alone but it's up to you if you think you will feel better with your hubby there or not. See how you feel when you arrive and you can always send him home, ha! x

Re: Surgery preparation!!
I got my letter through for the hospital yesterday and it said no nail polish. I have acrylic nails but no polish (even clear) on top, will these be OK or should i get them off?
I was also told to remove all piercings and no asprin was to be taken in the 2 weeks leading up to the op.
The biggest thing for me is the no food or drink from mid night the night before....at least my BA is at 10am or i'd struggle. Mind you nerves will kick in so doubt i'll be able to eat anything beforehand anyway.
I've been told to bring a few bra's for going home in, so will take few different ones...that are easy to put on. My sports bra's at the moment are over the head jobs so think they'll be a no no!! I've to wear a size smaller for the first to weeks for extra support then once i've been back to see them i can wear a bigger size.
Didn't think about the shaving etc...just been to excited. I'll need to make a list and keep it next to the laptop for everytime i'm on here.

Re: Surgery preparation!!
Hi
I stopped my fake tanning a week before so my skin had time to clear (be pale and interesting for a while!!!)
I also wore no deodrant - I know Starz said she did, but the ladies on here told me not to so i didn't!!! I was advised to take some wet wipes in and I was able to freshen up my face and pits when i came round from surgery and felt awake.
I shaved the night before, and showered that morning to make sure I was super germ free!! I used Tea Tree body wash from Body Shop for two weeks leading up to surgery - that was surgeon's advice.
Remember button up PJs, vest tops are possible but you might simply be too uncomfortable to stretch, button up is best.
Get a V Pillow! They are fab!
Buy cheap sport bras from Asda to start you off, then take back what you don't need and get some better quality ones then, as you will know your size.
My OH would not stay, he was working anyway bit is scared of hospitals so wouldn't have anyway lol.
I quite enjoyed the time and space and being alone. It gave me time to sit and get my head around what was about to happen. I had wanted boobs for 20 years. Those moments sitting waiting and contemplating the end of that era were quite special :).
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xx

I took my acrylic nails off for my first op but I think I kept them on for the second just took the polish off. I have a belly button piercing and kept this in both times. Second op the anaethetist covered it over with micropore tape.
The no asprin or ibruprofen (or alcohol I'm afraid) for 2 weeks before is right as it thins the blood xxx

Re: Surgery preparation!!
I have been told no alcohol for 2 days and am planning to enjoy toasting the departure of my fried eggs tomorrow night. Didn't know about the deodorant so thanks for that.
