Arnica - did any ladies use it??
Hi Ladies,
Has anyone used Arnica 30c tablets to reduce swelling and bruisig pre-op and after op? My surgeon has advised using 3 days prior to op and then 3 days after op.
But i have read Arnica should not be used with NSAID drugs like ibruprofen. But i understand i will be given some pain killers after op, so wouldnt that clash??
Also, did Arnica help with swelling and bruising?
Thanks so much
xxxx

I used Arnica 2 days before surgery and then for a week. I wasn't really bruised post surgery so maybe that helped?
The first week I was on cocodamol and Arnica. Then took ibuprofen to combine with cocodamol because of the amount of pain I was. I still took Arnica and never noticed any side effects.
I also took some Gotu Kola for swelling and wounds healings and glutamine for the muscles healing. But you got to check with your ps first as it all varies from individuals.
I had no problem with all those medecine cocktails, so I'm not sure if it'd be the same with another girl.

Re: Arnica - did any ladies use it??
thanks for your reply Adrianne. My ps said many girls use it and swear by it, so it must be god i thought. but me being me i have to check everything in detail!! just strange the label also says do not use whilst using pain killers.
I read this somewhere and just copied it:
"Some pain relievers may also increase the risk of bleeding if used with arnica. Examples include aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve, Anaprox). Use of arnica with other pain-relieving medications may increase the analgesic effects. It is possible that arnica may decrease the effectiveness of drugs used to lower blood pressure. Theoretically, arnica may cause a decrease in the protein binding of drugs that are highly protein bound. "
Bu i guess if ladies have used it should be fine.

Re: Arnica - did any ladies use it??
I didn't use Arnica for my first BA and had a quick recovery with no bruising at all and very little pain.
Re-op I was instructed to take Arnica, I did have a much more intrusive surgery but I took two weeks to recover (gain arm movements and the pain to settle) had lots of bruising and swelling, so I don't think it made any difference to my recovery if I'm honest.
Unless your surgeon feels you specifically need Ibuprofen immediately post-op then you won't be given it babe, you'll be sent home with Tramadol or co-codamol and possibly anti-biotics hun. xx

I took arnica before and after op and I still had bruising so not sure if it helped but I would take it again in the future just in case! I also took arnica and ibuprofen and was fine. x

I didn't use it for my BA and I didn't have much bruising- although I had strapping on for the first week. I have used arnica cream on other bruises though and it's worked brilliantly x

I was told to use it by my PS. I got it & tried to abide by taking it but it made me feel sooooo sick. So i knocked it on the head. I hardly bruised anyway...which for me is unusual as i have a blood disorder (sticky blood...which alongside clotting, i bruise easily) So i can honestly say for something which i thought i would need i never :-) xx

I didn't bother with the arnica, and I was very lucky that I didn't have a single bruise. xx
