Arnica or no Arnica??? Confused
Hello lovelies,
A couple of weeks ago I came across a post here about arnica.
I searched the forum and found several posts about it and many comments.
So I contacted my surgeon coordinator and asked her.
When I spoke to her she just said she didn't see the point or the benefit for me to take it.
She kinda brushed it off as if to say it's more expense.
The thing is, if it's a good idea/beneficial to take it I don't really care about the cost as I want to give myself the best chance of good healing etc.
:help:I'm lost and confused and would like feedback from anyone who took it before and after surgery and if they thought it made a difference to the healing process.
Much love,
Angelina x

If you haven't been instructed by your surgeon to take Arnica then it's entirely your own decision whether or not you 'want' to take it.
I personally feel your PCC gave you good advise.
I've used Arnica when I had my first surgery and bruised like a peach!
I didn't use Arnica when I had my second surgery and bruised like a peach.
For me, it made no difference either way if I took it or not - I bruised like a peach!
So I'm with your PCC it IS an expense that really isn't necessary
Just to add - there is actually no medical evidence to uphold any sort of healing properties in Arnica.
Some people however feel it works wonders!
So your choice Angelina, is that if you've money spare and would like to give it a go, then buy it and try it!
But if you're not wanting to buy things you 'don't need' then don't buy it xx

Hey , I had this with myself too. In the end I didn't take it as it contains lactose. Normally I bruise really badly but, considering what an invasive surgery it is, I hardly bruised at all. My right boob was bruised where the incision was made and then kinda spread to my rib a bit as the bruise went yellow, on my left I didn't bruise at all.
Usually I swear by arnica cream for my bruises but really don't think these bruises have been any more stubborn or painful without it.
Hope this helps, as cookie said tho, its up to you :) x

No harm in trying it, but nothing scientific to say it works. If you believe in homeopathic meds try it, if you don't, don't bother! I didn't use it and barely bruised, but I don't tend to bruise badly anyway.

I didn't take anything like that and had a tiny bit of bruising to the left breast around my drain area. I suppose the choice is yours tho xx

My surgeon told me I have to take mine a week before surgery and a week after as it helps the body and bruising! I'm assuming it's obviously good for you as he isn't making any money out of me taking it haha! Xx

It's a homeopathic medicine, so I guess it depends if you buy into that. Some clinics advise it, some don't. Mine did, I too it, bruised like hell. Hubs also too it for a knee op, and his whole leg bruised. Some people swear by it though. So it's up to you really.

Like others have said, I guess it depends on your preference. If you do take it, and don't bruise, you'll put it down to that. If you don't take it, and do bruise, you'll put it down to not taking it...either way you'll never really know if it made any difference :) I figure that it doesn't have any negative effects so no harm in taking it...but it does just add to the already expensive cost! x

Hi Lovelies,
Well I thought I had replied the other day to thank you all for your advice. Alas it didn't post (I must have done something wrong lol).
So ladies, thank you very much for taking the time to respond. It has helped me make my mind up and I won't be taking Arnica.
Xx

I used arnica and it worked AMAZING for me. I bruised really bad all up my cleavage area and after 3 days of taking arnica the change was unrecogniseable! My only disappointment was that i didnt take it pre op because I honestly believe it would of helped me from bruising so much x

I took it. I asked my surgeon beforehand and he said that he wasn't sure it would do any good but it wouldn't do any harm either, so it was up to me.
I hardly bruised at all and what little there was disappeared quickly. Was it due to the arnica? I don't know, but it might have been, so I'm glad I did take it.
The extra cost was negligible compared to the overall cost of the BA.
