Arnica
Hi Girls,
Just wondering if anyone used arnica before/ after their op? If so, do you think it worked?
I'm also unsure what potency/dosage to use and when to start taking it etc.
Any advice would be great!

Re: Arnica
i took it before and during and after, i had my nose done too, and i think it defo works!
i was advised by lady in health shop to take arnica 6, but sure others were told 30 , i had to take 2 6 times 2 days before op! so maybe with a higher strength you can take less frequently. xx

Hiya chick
I asked about this at my consult with my surgeon and he said not to bother and rolled his eyes and then laughed!!
I think it depends and as Flyffy Bunn1e said it worked for her so why not!

Re: Arnica
With homeopathic medicine, less is more weirdly enough. I'm sure I read a lower dose was more potent.
I took it a week before Hattie, and think it helps things along. I don't think there's anything to lose by taking it so give it a go xx

Re: Arnica
some surgeon say you should take it and some don't, i personally don't think it makes any difference.
i took it before and after my second b/a but tbh i don't really bruise much anyway. i would say if it makes you feel better then just take it, can't do any harm.

Re: Arnica
I took was advised to take it by nurse at Transform as I do bruise easily. I took 6cc 2 of the ball things 4 times a day, a week before op and a week after, then bought some more for peace of mind because I was worried about my scars healing. I did have bruising but it was very minimal, and where there was bruising it was deep purple. I think it wouldn't do any harm if you have been advised to take it.

Re: Arnica
I have taken Arnica for two of my four caesareans and had minimal bruisng, the one I didn't take it for - bruising like you wouldn't believe.
This last caesarian I did a bit of research b4 and found whilst arnica is the one for bruising and most injuries, for wounds that are in nerve rich areas or that are caused by sharp instruments (i.e scalpels) the remedy for surgery is Bellis Perennis. The strength for acute injuries is 200c and the dosage is one pill under the tongue, you can take as often as needed..if you feel sore take another and if no pain wait till pain begins to return and then take one. And so on.
I am a Chemistry Grad and there is really no reason for these remedies to work scientifically so I don't know why, but they do!!
I will have a ready supply for my BA that's for sure I get mine from an online homeopathic pharmacy called Helios.

Re: Arnica
I was told to take it 2 weeks before & 2 weeks post. I started to take it but it made me feel soooo sick so i stopped it. I hardly had any bruising & i bruise very easily. Not sure whether it would help or not but there's no harm in trying it...

Re: Arnica
I pondered over this and decided not to bother.....luckily I didn't bruise at all and like stephyx I usually bruise really easily. It won't do you any harm to try it if you want too.

Re: Arnica
Thanks ladies, it sounds like there is no evidence to back up homeopathy but at the same time there is nothing to lose so i might just give it a go anyway!
Might try that Bellis Perennis as well kayla - I am willing to try anything to help my op and healing go smoothly!

Re: Arnica
Apparently ( and according to a lady in my village who is a homeopath) if you take a remedy for a condition before it exists like you did steph x, then it is like taking antibiotics before you have a bacterial infection only slightly more problematic. She explained it to me by saying that homeopathy treats the person suffering the illness and cannot help in anticipation but in some cases can result in you feeling ill if you take a remedy too soon and most certainly before an occurence of a situation you need to take a remedy for.
If you are stilll with me ( had a glass or two of fizz) I guess it makes sense. So if you take a remedy for a week or two b4 your op it will do no good and possibly harm or give side effects.
You should give a different remedy say for fear/anticipation like aconite beforehand and swithch to arnica or Belis Perennis after surgery.
Sorry for the ramble, off to bed now xx
