Hiya Sophie Showering advice 855564 I think its one of those things that might depend on what surgeon you had...I was told not to use soap on my incisions but to let the water/soap run over them naturally as i shower+to dry.use a hair dryer on cold setting. Hope that helps+enjoy your shower! Showering advice 184153

Yes I didn't use soap/gel direct on the inscisions but let it run over them. First shower it so nice. I stayed in it for ages lol. You do feel so nice and clean.

I stood with my back to the shower head and let the water run over the incisions gently, as opposed to letting them get soaked.I then used my hairdryer on a cool setting to ensure they were completely dry. I didn't use soap directly on the incisions eirther.

OMG that very first shower is a-ma-zing, I didn't want to come out!

Enjoy! x x

You just can't describe how great that first shower is can you!!!! yahoo

I did as the other ladies have already posted Soph, just allowed the water to trickle over my incisions - Afterwards I used a hairdryer on a cool setting (Just gave the incisions a gentle blow with the hairdryer) to ensure they were thoroughly dry too before putting my bra back on xx

I was told to wash the incisions lightly with anti-bacterial soap and then apply Neosporin ointment after I got out of the shower.

Seriously how good is that first shower - I struggled between not wanting to get out and not wanting to soak my incisions too much !!

I did like the others ladies - had a good soaping then let the suds run down, I faced away from the shower most of the time and my nips were so sensitive it was a bit sore.

I also dry mine on a cool setting with the hairdryer before applying bio oil and getting dressed

Hey girlies,

On the subject of showering etc I've got a bit of a silly questions but I just don't know what to do!!!

I've been having a shower and not using any soap as I've been scared to get any in my scars. Then I've been getting out of the shower and washing my hair over the bath.

Do you think I can wash my hair in the shower and start using shower gel??? I'm so paranoid of getting anything in the incisions???

Hey hun, even tho i dont directly wash my wounds i have been washing my hair as normal! I just try and not let too much shampoo etc run over the front of me and make sure that i rinse my boobies well, letting the water run down over them. Hth!

Can I just add a little question to this? I've still got steri strips on my incisions. Had them changed the other day and the nurse gave me some spares. I had my first shower this morning and assumed I should remove the steri strips, have a shower and then put new ones on when I was completely dry. Is that right and anyone know how long I should keep the steri strips on? Thanks x

Thanks Soph that's a great help!!! Can finally wash my hair in the shower tonight yipppeeee lol!!!

Lynnie, I was the same as you but after I took mine off and had a shower, I didn't put my steri strips back on. I think they give them to you in case your sports bra rubs on the incision etc but my sports bra hasn't at all. If you can give your incision some air without the bra irritating then I'd deffo recommend not wearing the strips!

Hope that helps xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi just wanted to add this for Lynnie,

Hi hun.... just to let u know i went for my stitches out the other day and they put a few steri-strips on me and said just wait till they fall off which will be when i shower, so i think you should be fine and not need to put more on :).

I had a bath not a shower the first time (just prefer bath) i was soooo afraid to get my boobies in the water and tried very hard not to get incisions wet.... cant wait till i have no need to worry :).

Had a little look in one of my nursey books there ladies and advice seems to be just to let steristrips fall off by themselves.. 10-14days seems to be the average time! Ripping them off before jepordises healing and skin integrity! The longer they are on the better for healing and wound closure! Showering advice 184153 xx

I was told to keep mine on until they fell off and wasn't given any to replace them.

I didn't have any rubbing on my scars from my sports bra so was all good. !! xx
