boobies and telling children
Hya girlies, got my consultation next Monday and i can't wait sssssssssssoooooooo exited . Now for those of you who have sproglets, My daughter is nearly 5 and VERY with it. She is obsessed with boobs and all things booblike. Many a time I have caught her flinging my Chicken fillets across the bedroom whilst chuckling "mommies boobies",............... bless! My point is that nothing gets past this kid, so when i have the op do I take the "honesty is the best policy" route with her and tell her straight or do I make up some daft story about a boob fairy. There is no doubt about it that she will notice as her Mum will have significantly larger norks then before . I am bringing her up to be a very strong confident girl and I don't want her to think that surgery is a light hearted easily done thing, nor do I want to worry or scare her. I don't want her to think that I didn't like myself or anything negative, nor do i want her to have a negative impression of herself because of what i am gonna do. Sometimes I can be to honest and may come accross as a little brutal, so ladies, please help! xxxx

Re: boobies and telling children
I completely understand your dilemma. I have a four year old and decided not to tell her as I didn't want the whole nursery to know I said I was going to get my sore back fixed, but since having it done she's started putting stuff up her tops like tangerines (although I'd like to think the outcome of my boob job was bigger than that ) I do catch her staring at my boobs if I'm in the bath and she has asked if doctor fixed my back, so she may have put two and two together. I do plan on telling her when she is older so I can tell her why I did it and that it was not an easy decision. But for the moment I'll just let her stick with the tangerines.

My sons are 3 and 13. I told the 13 year old everything as we are very open and he was just pleased that he would get the tv for a couple of nights while i was in hospital
My 3 year old is obviously too young to understand anything but he knows I have some 'baddys' and he can't jump on me like usual, and keeps asking me if I'm better now.

i have a 5 yr old daughter who is also very with it, so personally,i think when my boobie time comes,im just going to be honest with her, but i tell her everyday that she is perfect, and how lucky she is, so at the same time she wont grow up to feel like i do, its a really hard decision to make, but you will do whatever you think is best.good luck with whatever you choose to do xx

Re: boobies and telling children
I have boys so slightly easier for me, my eldest is 4 and I told him I pulled a muscle .
He's still a little confused about me having boobs now but has largely ignored it.
My rationale for not telling him the truth - he has a complete inability to keep a secret therefore the whole school and subsequently my middle ones nursery would all find out.
Good luck with whatever you decide, x

Yup, my little un has a total inablitly to keep her god shut, what is more she seems to get great pleasure in dropping me in it! I think I will do the pulled muscle story then just try to distract her if she asks about it, thanks you guys xoxox

Re: boobies and telling children
I'm going in for my BA next week and I'm still not sure what to say to my two.
My daughter is 8 and will understand to a certain extent, but like you Jaybles, I don't want her to think that surgery is something easy that you pop to the shops and get with your pocket money!
My son is nearly 6 so probably wont understand so well. I may go with the truth and hope my daughter 'gets' it and doesn't worry too much. I think my son will be a little embarrassed so probably wont talk about it with his friends!
I'm actually going to be in hospital for 2 nights so will have to explain that anyway....
I'll let you know what I decide to tell them, and what their reactions are!!

I have given this some more thought since the thread started. I think I am going to tell my boys the truth - will let you know what they say.

Re: boobies and telling children
I took my son (3.5 at the time) to my second consultation with me. He strode into my ps's office, picked up one of the sample implants on the side and shouted "mum is this going to be your new boobies?" I could have died!
I wanted to be as honest with him as possible as he stayed with my parents after the op but he was that bit younger at the time so it was a bit easier. xx

Re: boobies and telling children
Hi - this is a tricky one at that age. I suppose I was lucky in that mine (boys) were only 3 years and 15 months so I got away without saying anything. I said I was going to stay with my friend, kept covered up until I was well healed and when I was recovering I just said I had a sore tummy. No questions asked! I don't think I could get away with it a year on though as they get a lot more inquisitive between the age of 3 to 4!
I wanted my BA to be a secret from most people, so that's why I didn't tell my children. If I wasn't bothered who knew I'd probably have told them, but like some other posters I knew it would get spread around the nursery!!
Good luck with whatever you decide. It must be harder still with girls.
