ba with nhs process a bit confused
i went to my gp feeling very depressed about my breasts so he put me on antidepressents. after being on them for 4 months he refered me to the hospital to see a consultant, i got my appointment 2 weeks later. when i went to the consultant he said he could help me as i had tubular breasts, but because i am on antidepressent i have to see a psycologist first to see if i could handle surgery and any complications. he then gave me apointment to go back and see him again on the 26th feb. i have just got a letter from the psycologist with a psycology questionaire that is like a book. it was questions about how you feel about your body and stuff like that, it said when they recieve it i will then get a apointment for the psycologist. my questions are have i been approved or not my consultant said he can help me but can they turn round and say no

Re: ba with nhs process a bit confused
Hey lovely,
Sorry to hear you're so down about your boobs. As with anything on the NHS, cosmetic surgery is very hit and miss. Some girls manage to get surgery to go bigger, and it's usually the case where there's asymmetry or sever disfigurements etc. As you have tubular breasts you may be a candidate, but it can be a long road to go down, you may have to have counseling for a few months first, then be referred. Even if you are referred they may reject your case. A lot of it is based on where you live and what hospitals are nearby.
As Nads said, Lou should be on soon to give you more advice.

Re: ba with nhs process a bit confused
Hi there Sian :wavey: , nice to have you here!
Unfortunately they can still say no............ if they do this will only be based on the psychologists opinion on the matter, but you must bear in mind that a "no" is not necessarily the end of it.
Thankfully as you already have the support of your GP and consultant I personally think you would have very good grounds to appeal against your PCT.
Having said all that tubular breasts usually falls within the grounds for BA surgery through the NHS because it's more a defect rather than a case of underdevelopment, whatever happens please keep us updated and if you need anymore help or advice don't hesitate to ask

Re: ba with nhs process a bit confused
As LouLou82 has said they can still say no. I was given the all clear from surgeon but because am seeing a psychologist outwith the hospital and a psychiatrist the surgeon wont do my op. I have also been told i need to stop my anti-depressents (which am not taking anyway).
Where about do you stay?? England seems to work differntly from scotland. The only advice i can give about seeing the psychologist is to be honest but not to honest. If they think for one minute you can cope with sugery mentally they will say no and you'll need to wait months before going through the process again. xxxx
