Post op bra/hospital essentials?!
hey everyone!
im off on holiday next week and when i get back its only a few days till my boob job.....eeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkk!!! so i am trying to get sorted now...can anyone recommend a good post-op bra? i am a bit worried about the 3 hour drive home the day afterwards and want to be as supported and comfy as possible! also, is it best to go up a band size? i am currently a 32 NOTHING and having 275cc high profile allergan inspira unders, so thinking i will buy both a 34 C and a 34D?!?!
had a quick peek in m&s yesterday and the 34D bra was so massive i was terrified and couldnt bring myself to buy it!!! all my friends think my bras at the moment are like doll bras cos they are so teeny tiny, so these massive massive sports bras are pretty daunting!
also, do i need anything else for before after and during hospital? am going to hit the shops this weekend!! am already piling on the bio oil twice daily, keep ringing my nurse coordinator and asking 'what should i be doing now 18 days before surgery??' and then the next day 'what should i be doing now, 17 days before surgery??' - i am such a worrier!! have taken some pre-op photographs to remind me why i am doing this....sounds very weird but i have so rarely looked at them that the pictures actually shock me, they are so small! its so embaressing  but anyone who questions my decision, i bring out my camera, show them the ridiculously tiny boobs i have, and ask 'what would you do in my position??' nearly every person is supportive after that!! i wouldnt in my wildest dreams show people even a month ago, but now i sort of feel like they are no longer mine and my real boobies are a few weeks away...waiting for me!!!
thanks for your help everyone, and sorry for writing such a massive essay once again!!

Re: Post op bra/hospital essentials?!
hey hun
not long to wait now. I would get a v pillow and maybe take another pillow with you to put between your boobs and the seatbelt otherwise it wont be comfy. deffinatly get a band bigger than you need and even a cup bigger than you think you'll need just in case, you can always return them later. good luck and keep us posted. xx

Re: Post op bra/hospital essentials?!
How exciting hun!!! Are you a day/overnight case???
Def get a v pillow hun like PB has suggested and make sure you take a pillow for the journey home to place between the seat belt and your chest.
Basically you need a dressing gown, slippers, comfy loose fitting pyjamas that do up at the front that you can slip on after your op if your planning on staying the night. Ipod and magazines or books to keep you occupied whilst your waiting hun. Make up if you feel up to putting some on for the way home. Comfortable and loose fitting clothes for the journey home.
Also I think it would advisable to get a post op bra in the next band up just to accomodate for any swelling hun. You can always return it if it turns out you dont need it but just to be safe.

I think you've got everything under control :) and gotsomeboobs has given you a guide to all the essentials you'll need.
I used the asda sports bras - they're comfortable and supportive but also quite cheap ...

if you're a day case do you need pjs and dressing gown etc? or will there just be a gown supplied for during surgery and then back into your own loose clothes?

I was an overnight case so I dont know from experience but I dont see there would be any harm in taking them with you if you want to. xx

Re: Post op bra/hospital essentials?!
If you are a day case you'll need just a dressing gown and slippers and things to keep you amused.
A v pillow for the way home, sunglasses as I was still groggy on way home.
Enough food/fluids and snacks, magazines and books for recovering at home.
Dry shampoo, baby wipes.
And I'd recommend getting a 34 band to accomodate the swelling.
I had Asda sports bras and the La Senza ones.
The La Senza ones were very comfy as they are very soft and the band is low on them so they don't rub on your incisions. They are £14 online and they come in white, black and hot pink.

Re: Post op bra/hospital essentials?!
thanks girls! have made a little shopping list now of all these things, thank goodness for this site i wouldnt have a clue otherwise!! xxxxxx ps. i like the la senza ones and was going to buy the pink one (prettiest sports bra i can find anywhere!) but one of my friends who is a 32D (the size i will probs be immediately after surgery with swelling etc) said that the low cutness will really hurt and push down on my boobs!? would it be better to buy one of these absolutely massive things like practically reach the neck and are maximum shock absorber style, or is a sports bra advised just because it has no underwiring?!

hey lovely,
There's a list of what to take with you in the newbies forum: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Sports bras are advised as they help keep your boobs firm and in place while they're healing. They give you more support than a normal bra would.
I had a shock absorber and a Asda spesh for straight after my surgery.
xx

No definately not hun. I am now an F cup and bought a 34DD. They are really soft material and stretchy. They don't push your boobs up or down, they just support them. The straps are like normal bra straps so good for under vests and strappy tops.
If you don't like it, you can always take it back. I bought some giant ones and also the Asda ones - they are £4 and really good,
