I've seen a few things about what pain relief to take after the op, am I right in thinking that they give you a prescription for something like co-dydramol, a codeine based pain killer?

Codeine and myself are not a good mix, (I used to be prescribed it for migraines) so I'm looking for alternatives.

Obviously no aspirin as thins the blood, what about ibuprofen? I thought we weren't supposed to take it before the op so what about after?

If ibuprofen is ok what about diclofenac (voltarol) as it is from the same family of drugs but much stronger pain relief? Has anyone used this?

I've seen panadol and paramol both mentioned but isn't panadol just paracetamol and paramol is codeine based?

Also what about panadol night, its paracetamol with something else that's to help you sleep, has anyone tried this?

Sorry for the millions of questions, just worrying a bit about the pain afterwards, esp as ps is recommending partial unders.

Thanks, x

Hiya hun, i didnt get on well with the codine either, so i started to take ibuprofen and this worked ok with paracetamol. I have also taken the diclofenac before but it is quite strong and leaves you feelin quite spaced out (well did me anyway), lol.
I also took the calms sleep which helped me on a night, Good luck hun, xxxxx

When you get to the hospital I think you should tell them your concerns and they will be able to prescribe you something other than a codeine based painkiller. X

I was given Tramadol, and I had partial unders, it gave me the best sleep ever! especially as I had to sleep propped up. I was also given extra strong ibruprofen for swelling and told to have paracetamol once I felt I didnt need the Tramadol. Im sure the docs know what to give you but if you have anything you dont get on with then its best to tell them. xx

yeah definately no asprin, i was also told not to take ibuprofen as it's an anti inflammatory.
best to stick to paracetamol or something hunny. codeine doesn't agree with me either it gives me a headache and makes me feel dizzy.

I would ask when you go to the hospital hun, they should be able to give you something else instead of codeine.
