Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
So after getting everything ready for my pre-op later this afternoon, I rang to confirm something and the hospital didn't know I had an appointment! Then they called me back to cancel due to sickness of staff... so now I don't have to go in until my surgery day. The nurse asked me some questions over the phone and I asked about what bras to buy for straight after surgery and I have been told just a sports bra from asda. Is this what I need to buy or do I need something like a Macom? Just want to make sure I have everything right and now I just feel a bit deflated.
Also, I am only seeing my surgeon to take bandages off 12 days after surgery.. is this a longer wait than usual? Just because I've read its always around 7 days, I don't suppose it matters but just wondering about the hygiene of the wounds etc.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. xxx

It's not an issue not going into the hospital for your pre op I've heard a few ladies on here saying they've had it over phone. They also told me sports bras or the cheap 2pack from asda. I thought of I've paid this much for new boobs I'm not putting them in cheap bra. I bought 2 macoms too. X I saw my nurse after 7 days who removed my strips of the scars. Don't see my surgeon till march now. Xx

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
A physical pre op isn't always needed, especially if you're in good health, so don't worry too much about It . I would clarify on the bra though, asda bras do not offer any support, but this may be what your surgeon wants. You need to find out if you want high or low/no impact.
There's no 'normal' when it comes to the op, just what's right for you. Some girls see a nurse or suurgeon at 7days, some wait longer. It depends what the surgeon wants for you.

I too read that you can have your pre op over the phone.
I would ask your ps what sort of support is needed for after before you buy any bras.
Every surgeon is different and want different things so 12 days is probably normal for your surgeon.
You only have a week or so left. How exciting xxxx

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
I only had my tapes / dressings removed at nearly 3 weeks post op. I did see a nurse at 7 days to get them checked but she didn't do much - I was in and out within seconds!!
I feel for u re pre op cancellation tho - all of that stuff is exciting so I bet it was a real let down for u!
Totally normal to do it over phone like the others have said.

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
Thanks for replying everyone! I feel much happier knowing that some ladies just have their pre-op over the phone too! I can only speak to my surgeon next weds now (two days before op) so will have to go shopping afterwards for the bras.. I was thinking of just buying a macom like I've read but if that isn't the right thing for my boobs then I better just wait and see. The nurse said just a normal sports bra that clasps like a normal bra, so I'll double check :) xxxx

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
I would definitely go for a front fastening bra if u can!! The macom fastens at the front and also they have zip up sports bras in m&s which do up at the front. It's so much easier after surgery! Xx

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
Totally agree, front fastening sports bra will be so much easier for the first couple of weeks. Arm restriction for the first 7/10 days for me would have been far to difficult to handle a back clasp. Also you need something that has a really wide band so that it doesn't sit on or rub at your inscisions. Definately check on impact level. My ps wanted firm support but not compression after 48 hrs so he supplied my post surgery bra and I was in a compression rap over bra for first two days Xx

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
Ahh ok - so whats the difference with the macom then? does that give compression or? Feel a little bit lost with what to buy... I guess I'm just going to have to wait until my surgeon is back a few days before I go in. As like you said just a simple sports bra that closes at the back doesn't sound quite right. Thanks xx

- These were the style the nurse suggested (I won't be taking it off for 12 days post op), I'm not sure if the band is too narrow and would rub incisions. Just thought i'd share :) x

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
I have those, very comfy. Didn't rub on inscisions but the band is a little thin. I was in them here and there from about 2 weeks but mostly stayed in my post op bra till 5 weeks. This link shows something similar to this, except mine also had a zip [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I would buy the m&s bras and take to PS to show him. You might be fine with them. If not you'll have some comfy bras for a few weeks down the line.

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
I just had a look at the link you sent and the selection looks really good. Did you order yours from there? Does anyone else have experience with these bras?
I also found this bra is priced FREE! I am seriously considering ordering some bras.

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
thought it was too good to be true here's the email i received
Dear Melanie,
Thank you for ordering online with us, however I am sorry there has seemed to be a glitch with our website and so you have only paid for delivery, not for the bra.
We would need to take payment over the phone for this, the amount is £23.52 including the VAT.
I have tried calling you for this but could not get through, I am terribly sorry to inconvenience you but please could you call us to make this payment.
Once received we can send the bra out to you.

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
I looked at this site seems a bit weird a free bra!!!! I don't think you pay vat on post op bras either. I didn't when I brought one from M and S. Xx

Re: Pre-op appointment cancelled :/
they said it was a glitch on the site, legally i could pursue it as i took a screen shot,it clearly stated free when i put the order through, but i think may be more hassle than its worth, it is now coming up a price when you go on to the site
