Anyone find all the conflicting advice baffling
So my surgeon said that I can have a proper bath from 3 weeks and go in a pool and swim at 5 when I go on holiday. I am being super cautious because of infection so had a little check on here and saw soooo much different advice from everybody's surgeons. I know I should follow my own surgeon's advice but it has made me think 3 weeks is too early for a bath because some of you were advised to wait until 12.
It got me thinking as to why the advice is so different. Surely a scar is a scar and it is either sealed and not open to infection at 3 weeks or it isn't, obviously subject to you not having any problems with scar breakdown.
Its the same with the bras, some advise no bras right through to compression garments for 12 weeks.
Do they all go to different colleges/ read different papers, why would they all see things so differently? I just find it all very confusing and I would wonder whether this is the same in all areas of medicine or just a plastic surgery thing

Re: Anyone find all the conflicting advice baffling
Each surgeon tailors aftercare specifically to the individual patient hence all the conflicting advice.
I had a quick search on the internet & depending on type of surgery bathing & swimming is advised at different time scales after surgery e.g NHS website appendectomy ,states that you can bathe & swim from 2weeks after surgery , so it isn't just limited to cosmetic surgery where conflicting advice is concerned.
As long as your surgeon is happy that your scar is healed on the outside & no risk of infection you should be ok to follow his advice, if concerned though & wanting to err on the side of caution you could either wait a little longer or perhaps purchase some waterproof dressings to cover your scars whilst swimming.

If it were NHS, there'd be a standardised process, but even then, consultant to consultant, there would be differences of opinion on a course of treatment. One may try steps abc, whereas another might skip straight to c, so it's kinda the same all over.
It really is a case of listening to your surgeon for your instructions. You wouldn't take somebody else's prescribed medicines, so don't take their 'prescribed' instructions.
Saying that, if you don't feel comfortable bathing or swimming at your instructed time, simply don't! I didn't submerge mine until about 5months (but mostly because I hate baths, and there was a hottub!!)

I don't feel comfortable with it. Just because I
Would be so upset with myself if I ended up infected again. I would have aftercare because I would have followed my advice, but I know what a nightmare it would be. I'm bored of boobs now, nearly a year of this! I want to enjoy them, wear no bra/ wear wires/ sleep on my side/ take tape off. More than anything to just forget about them! I'm not risking any complication. Thanks both for the advice xx
