Possible infection ?
I am 6 weeks post breast uplift and reduction. All went great until 2 weeks ago. The scar on my left breast has become very inflamed. I went back to my hospital twice last week and was told it was the due to the stitches not dissolving and would clear up within a few days.
Fast forward 6 days and it's worse than ever. Very inflamed and a white area with red ring round it and puss coming out. The hospital just keep palming me off but my breast is so painful and I feel very sick. Not sure to see my surgeon until the 9th but feel if I go back I am just made to feel I am waiting their time again.
Has anyone had this with stitches before? I am sure mine is infected - I sent a photo to a friend who is a doctor and she said she also felt it was infected.
Help!! All I got from the hospital was a iodine patch and a plaster!

Re: Possible infection ?
I have a lump on one of my scars where my stitches hasn't dissolved and my surgeon said it could work its way out and it may even seep a little pus when it does it but just to keep it clean and let it heal if it does, if I had any concerns just to get in touch. It sounds like they think this may be all it is as you said, but do they know your also feeling unwell? I'm no doctor for sure, but I'd be thinking maybe a small course of antibiotics and them cleaning it up for you would help, give them another call babe, I would.
Hope it all clears up soon for you xxx

Re: Possible infection ?
What colour is the pus? If it's green, smelly and ooky, get straight back to the dr, especially if you're having flu-like symptoms. If it's clear, or a little cloudy, then it's likely just your body healing the stitches. If it's really worrying you that much though, try and get back in with your surgeon earlier.

Thanks both of you. The pus is a yellow colour and smelly. Earliest I could get with surgeon is the 9th. I will give them a ring today and see if I can see a nurse.

If you don't get any joy with your surgeon or nurse I would go straight to your gp or a&e at your local hospital Hun, even if it's just to put your mind at rest. It's not worth the risk of waiting, if you do have a problem you need to get on antibiotics ASAP. Hope is all ok and it's just a false alarm x

Good luck at your appointment!
Often stitches can split and irritate causing these problems whilst trying to work it's way to surface, hopefully treatment from nurse & some antibiotics to clear any possible infection will get your healing right back on track.

Re: Possible infection ?
Hey thought I would give an update. I seen the nurse yesterday who was so much better than the previous one.
The problem has been caused as thought by the stitches not dissolving however the scar has broken down and has 3 holes in it. It's looking pretty angry but is not infected. They have dressed it with antibiotic creams that I now change daily and then go back on Tuesday. If it's still the same then they will get the surgen in to see it.
Just a bit of advice too it has not been helped by me moisturising my boob. This however is what I was told to do by my surgeon when I last seen him so have been doing it daily. Just feel I have been given different instructions depending on who I have seen.
Anyway onwards and upwards. Still feel very quesy but hopeful by Tuesday things will have improved. 6 weeks on I just want to enjoy my new boobs. Thanks for all the advice
