Infection!!!
Hey Girlies,
Ok i know i'm being majorly paranoid and for no reason as well, but i'm overly worried about getting an infection!!!! Silly i know!!!! So, just so i'm prepared and to make me feel better that everything is ok can anyone tell me the signs of infection ( obviously i still have dressings on so can't see my wounds at all !!! ), would i know if i had an infection?
How easy is it for infections to be treated?
Any info would be great girls before i turn into a total hypercondriac!!!!

Re: Infection!!!
Hey Jolene, sorry to hear you still have your drains in, good that your feeling well though. Do you have a high pain threshold? I'm no expert but i think if you had an infection your boob would be really hot and painful. I think they may go red and hard too....i may be wrong but i'm sure the girls will be along with answers soon. Happy healing hun and hope you get those horrid drains out tommorow xx

Re: Infection!!!
Hi girls,
They gave me a shot of anti-biotics after my op but that's it.
I have a really high pain threshold i think lol, i haven't compared it with anyone else's so not to sure but 30+ hours of labour with no pain relief so i'm guessing i handle it quite well!!!1
The problem is you don't know exactly how they should feel after do you? I mean i know i should be sore and in some pain but because it's not something you have been through before you don't know if what you feel is normal!!!! The only pain i have and it is so slight is where my scars are, this only started today and to be honest only hirts if i touch it!!!! But other than the bottom of my breats the rest just feels tight when i touch it no pain at all.

Re: Infection!!!
An infection could be indicated by some of the following
1. new stains on your dressings which were not there previously (especially not blood coloured as you still might be getting a little blood loss through the incision where the drains go in)
2. damp patches on the dressings
3. a foul odour emanating from the scar site.
But as you are going back in again tomorrow for them to check the drains, please try not to worry sweetheart, the nurse or PS will give you a thorough check up then.

Re: Infection!!!
Don't worry about not having any pain hunnie, I didn't either (except for my bad back). I'm just thankful that I seem to have a reasonably high pain threshold.

Re: Infection!!!
Hey honey thank you, the dressings covering my stitches are and have been completely dry no stains, my drains however have leaked but they said this is normal and not to worry, my PS also said to me not to worry that the colour lightens as this is blister fluid and a good sign!!! Whatever that is!!!!
To be honest I wish I had more pain, I know this is slightly weird lol but it would stop me moving!!! I'm starting to panick a bit as one boob looks lower and I'm worried I've done some damage!!! Now im worried to even make a cuppa, surely making a cup of coffee is ok??
I must sound like a flipping idiot lol!!

Re: Infection!!!
i would have thought you could make a cuppa by day 4.
i think its weird that they didnt put you on a course of antibiotics though as a precaution.

Re: Infection!!!
Just don't fill the kettle up for one cup of coffee, otherwise you're just lifting a lot of excess weight for nothing.

Re: Infection!!!
As long as the kettle is light u should be fine. Just fill it enough to make one cup. It wont be too heavy to lift then. As for one looking lower that sounds normal. They can be quite different for a while.
Re: Infection!!!
I'll ask tomorrow about antibiotics, I was just guessing that the antibiotic injection they gave me was enough!!!
I've been making coffee since day two, I cleaned the bath on day three!!!! It's not what I can't do it's what I shouldn't be doing!!! I thought if I could do it I'd be allowed didn't realise this was a no no!!
I'm glad one being lower is normal I was worried because they was both the same to start off with it's only since yesterday they have changed!!!! And my stitches seem sore now as well!!!!
I want to get more sports bras as well but how do I know what size to get??? I'm in a Macom one at the mo so have no clue as this stretches!!!!
I may upload some pics if anyone wants to see????

Re: Infection!!!
I've had an infection (actually 1 in each boob!) Because my body is rejecting the disolvable stitches. Boobs didn't hurt but went very red and felt hot to touch. After the first day of the antibiotics it cleared straight up! I am prob going to end up with more infections because these stitches are still coming to the surface and leaving open holes while they work their way out (sounds worse than it is)
Don't panic, just keep an eye on them and if you are ever worried go straight to your gp.
Congrats on new boobs by the way.

Re: Infection!!!
You're definitely doing too much hun! I know it's hard but you have to take it easy and give yourself a chance to heal and recover from major surgery. Infection signs would be: sore/red/hot boobs, leaking blood/fluid/pus onto your dressings, temperature, feeling ill.
The fact you have sore scars means you are definitely doing too much so get some magazines or DVD's and SIT DOWN!!! Or we will have to tie you to the chair lol
