Driving after op Empty Driving after op

Post by lje1983 26th June 2015, 5:54 pm

Hi ladies, I'm having my BA done on the 24th of next month and wondered how people have found driving afterwards!? My paperwork says I shouldn't drive for 2 weeks but not sure how practical this is! My daughter has to go in to hospital for a minor op 5 days after I have mine and was hoping I'd be able to take her?!?!

Maybe see if you can arrange for someone else to drive or perhaps a taxi if the journey isn't too far.
Failure to follow post op instructions can void your aftercare.

I was told no driving before 2 weeks, I did wait as instructed but it did seem like a really long time! However after my first time driving I did really ache afterwards so I was glad I waited.

I am 12 days post op, and there is no way I could drive  even now!  So early on, I found it tricky to do simple things like the soap pump dispenser and even opening doors, just couldn't do it.
It's your arms, it just feels so tight, and so a hey.
I would arrange a taxi, definitely hun.

The thought  of having to do a emergency stop.....ouch!

Legally, you cannot drive for 48hrs after GA, and if you are not capable of performing an emergency stop. If your clinic has said 2weeks, it's 2weeks at least. If you void that, they can easily whip your aftercare from you. I would suggest finding someone to give you a lift.

Hi, I doubt you will be able too. And I wouldn't risk it. Follow your aftercare as you don't want to void it xxx

Thanks everyone! I just wanted advise from people who had already been there and done it so to speak so thanks! I will arrange for someone to take us to the hospital in which case and do as I'm told coz I definitely don't want to void my aftercare!
Ps told my mum today, which was a huge deal for me & she was totally fine about it

I drove today for the fisrt time, 14 days post op. Was ok, but I drove for approx. 15 mins, don't think I could of done much more tbh, the seatbelt was the worst.
My boobs are at that awful phase where they feel sunburnt allover, so anything rubbing on them was torture! sad smile

Thanks again! I've asked if the hubby can take the day off work coz by the sounds of it I'm not gonna be much help with driving or looking after my daughter! At least I can be there to hold her hand when she wakes up!
I have a total of 16 days before I go back to work post op so hoping I'll be ok to drive then!
