Can I have a bath now?
Hi ladies, I'm nearly 7 weeks post op, all my glue is off incisions. I've looked and they are formed together no holes or anything. I was told I can shower 1 week post op, forgot to ask when I can have a bath? Do you think it would be ok now or can I still get a infection? X x

I would think you are ok have a bath, but maybe err in the side of caution & give your clinic a quick call just to check 1st. XXX

Re: Can I have a bath now?
I'd say no. Its normally about 12wks, and to be honest, I'd stick with that to be on the safe side. Reason being is that water is a breeding ground for bacteria, so if there is the smallest hole, or some scabbing still, its a big ol' entry sign. I'd wait still if you can. But you can bath up to your waist. Not really the point though is it if you want to soak your bones!

Re: Can I have a bath now?
I have shallow baths, but when I asked I was told not to have them submergered in water until atleast 12 weeks. I'm 2 weeks away from a mammoth soaking session in the bath...I CAN NOT wait! x

Re: Can I have a bath now?
Hi ladies, the nurse at my 4wk check up told me I was fine to bath, but no pool or sea on holiday. I didn't feel confident enough to bath at 4wks so I didn't but I'm 6wks tomorrow and was just about to go for my first bath but decided to check on here first.... quite surprised to see most people have said 12wks.... Was my nurse wrong to say I could at only 4wks post op then??

Re: Can I have a bath now?
Are you able to check with your surgeon? Maybe call his secretary and ask her to find out. Mine said 6 weeks, but they are all different.

Re: Can I have a bath now?
At 4wks the wounds are only superficially closed. Bathing/soaking could soften and open up and scabs that are still there, and water could get in leading to infection. I'm not saying your nurse was wrong, but you were right to be cautious and wait. This is why I say listen to your surgeon, not nurse! It does depend, and you should listen to your instruction, no one else's, but I would double check to be sure.
