For kimbodia - many questions Empty For kimbodia - many questions

Post by COOKIE 31st January 2015, 2:27 pm

Posted on behalf of Kimbodia:

I've read lots of useful info on here but have a few questions that I've not managed to find answers to, though maybe I've not hunted well enough!

So I'm planning on visiting 3 private hospitals, each consultant being BAAPS or BAPRA registered. I'm not interested in the commercial clinics as from what I read I can rely on a quality surgeon through a private hospital and sounds the commercial places can be a bit more hit and miss. I've found 2 consultants that interest me and I intend to meet, Nicholas James and Miles **naughty word**. Initially I will just do a free 10 mins with each of them and when I've found the one I feel most drawn to I'll book a full payable consultation. I'm just trying to find one at BMI Biddenham Bedford to also go and see. The other two are through Pinehill Hospital in Hitchin and Spire at Harpenden. Though I have read that you can also contact the consultant directly.

So my questions

Whats the difference/any benefit on booking/contacting a consultant directly rather than through the private hospital?

I want to use a consultant whose special interest is breasts, though can anyone help with the various letters after their names, the qualifications, which one is important in terms of breast surgery? eg I've seen FRCS (plast) BM BS MBBS etc etc

I am expecting to pay around £5k for it. Has anyone paid less in the Herts/Beds/Bucks areas at one of these private hospitals?

A question regarding the recovery, having a virtually flat chest at the moment, how long will it feel alien to have the implants? ie how soon will the feel like they actually belong to my own body? Its a concern because whilst my flat chest doesn't look good, I have no weight out front and feel concerned that I could find it a real negative to have weight at the front that I'm not used to. I don't intend to go huge, I'd like them to sit nicely on my small frame and look natural and not all boob!!

I'm yet to learn about what implants will suit me but I'll get onto that after meeting the surgeons. I'm sure some of you attended the free info evenings they run with the 10 mins with the consultant, were these useful enough to get a guide of who you liked?

Many thanks for reading

the smaller clinics such as BMI, Spire, The Nuffield etc... Well, you'll be given direct access always to your surgeon. Many private surgeons who work for these clinics are also more than happy to give you their email, so should you have any concerns you can always have direct contact via email too which is a big comfort. I feel like between myself and my surgein we could have written a book between us by now lol. Seeing a private surgeon within the clinic or in their private practise will always be the same for access, however.....it would be worthwhile checking the aftercare of where the surgeon works. You may get more in their private clinic than you would within the hospital clinic. Do also ask about ASC insurance. This is ONLY available to BAAPS surgeons. Not all have opted in yet though with it still being relatively new. Most private surgeons and clinics offer around a years aftercare. But if they have ASC insurance this will start 29 days after your surgery date, in this time you will be covered by the clinic. Then your ASC insurance will take care of you for two years so it's always best to ask about that.

You can find what all the letters behind any doctors or surgeons name means HERE

you're going to be looking for a surgeon with at least a FRCS (plast). Surgeons who are BAAPS/BAPRAS members which you're looking for are great for specialising in Breast. They're fully qualified to be specialising in this field.

can't answer for your area but in the NW im paying £5250

no matter the size of implant, whether it's big or small, you're going to wake up feeling like you've got an elephant sat on your chest. The swelling also makes your boobs feel heavy...around about 3-6 months they start feeling like a part of you though and you won't even remember what it was like not to have breasts. Your surgeon will explain the best volume for you, but you can help yourself by taking in pictures of the kind of boobs you'd like with you to your consultation. Be realistic though. If you're a tiny frame a large implant simply won't fit, so look for what you feel will suit your body frame and give you the look you're hoping for.

we've had quite a few ladies opting to go to these open evenings and from what I've read, they've found them very useful. We had one member just recently actually (im so sorry I can't recall the name Give You ) but she did this and went to see Mr foo for a short consultation. She was so impressed she booked for another full consultation and is now booked and waiting on her surgery now, so yes, they're a very good idea. Especially for giving you a feel of the surgeon and how they work with their patients.

Looking forward to chatting more Kimbodia and if there's an other questions just fire away babe. X

Welcome to the forum! I went direct to the surgeon via his website and found out all the locations he worked from and choose the one that suited most! The fee is made up of surgeon and hospital fees so if cost is big consideration maybe ask for prices at each hospital as hospital fees do differ, although maybe not significantly. Sounds like you've got a good plan ahead of you!

I think Cookie has covered everything.
But it was me who's booked with Mr Foo and started with a free 'mini' consultation.. If you have any questions about the mini consultation please ask away x

Hi Sarahlou222, I've been reading great things about Mr Foo, though with him based in Yorkshire its much further than I'd like to travel. Surely I can find an equally great surgeon in my locality, Bedfordshire. I hope your BA goes really well.

Funny enough I'm from Cambridgeshire and use to work in St Neots! So I know Bedford area very well.. Even went to the college for some evening courses.
Have you been into the BAAPS website? there's a map which you can select the area of the UK you are and find a surgeon.
Its only 2 1/2 hours lol... Only!! I say it like that because I have to travel to see my parents and boy friend x
