Arnica
hi ladies
I know this question has probably been asked a few times, but was any of yous ladies advised to take arnica 30c tablets 5 days before your surgery and 3 days after?
I know it's suppose to reduce bruising and swelling, but have read somewhere that some surgeons don't advise taking it?
Just wondered what your views were ? Xx

Yes!!! But then we have the same surgeon! I'm glad you reminded me I can't really remember much of what he said during consultation, I was so focused on having to have 2 separate ops. Have you had anything in writing re pre/post op?
Interested to know what other ladies have been told. But I think I will get some arnica, I am a bit of a bruiser.

Yes I had a letter confirming the date and location of my surgery a few days after I paid my deposit.
Then a couple of days later I had the pre op nurse ring me and ask me my, height and weight, and said 48hrs before my surgery I will get a call to confirm my admission time x

Re: Arnica
If you've been advised by YOUR surgeon to take Arnica then you should take it lovely.ACKUGA28 wrote:hi ladies

It's not that some surgeons don't 'advise' it for their patients, it's just that some surgeons don't feel the need for it.
Arnica has never been scientifically proven to have any healing properties - some surgeons who may believe in homeopathic remedies might advise it and those that don't wont, it's as simple as that babe.
I've used it with one of my surgeries and bruised like a peach, just as I have without it. It's made no difference at all for me whether I took it or not
But if my surgeon wanted me to take it (my surgeon doesn't) then I would. Xx
Re: Arnica
I took it before and for some days after, and bruising was minimal, to the point I hardly had any. Stopped taking it and BAM, the brusing took over and set up camp all over my boobs, but went straight to the yellowish stage. x

Re: Arnica
Hi girls. My surgeon said to take it 5 days before and a few after (can't remember exactly), so would also agree with cookie, do what your surgeon said.
Can I ask though, what happens if I decide to take it for longer to try and reduce bruising further?x

Re: Arnica
It really is best to follow the instruction given by your surgeon. Arnica can be used for longer than the general advise of 3-5 days post-op. However overuse of Arnica may cause problems with the ski such as blisters or eczema, so it really would be best to use less rather than more than you need.
