Can't catch a break!
Oh my god girls! I just cannot catch a break at the moment.
As most of you know I've had a fairly rocky recovery this past week. I'm one week post op today. I've been incredibly sore, tender, tearful, pain on breathing deeply, the list goes on and on. My partner and I decided to up sticks and come away for a few days to his parents so that we had some help with my little one. This plan didn't work as he has been really unwell with teething these last few days and I've been doing way too much to look after him. It got worse last night as my boy was in agony screaming ALL night and we were up talking to 111 overnight. We had all of 3 hrs sleep, took him to the docs and turns out he has an ear infection AND hand, foot and mouth disease :( my poor little man :( so he's really unwell and needing his mummy and I can't comfort him or give him anything he needs as I just don't have the strength and am just too sore. Oh I feel so rubbish and just want to feel better now! Sorry for the moan, feeling so helpless at the moment :( xx

Re: Can't catch a break!
Oh no, sounds like yr having a really rough time of it :( sometimes it really feels like things are sent to test us doesn't it, especially when there are children involved.
Having children myself I can understand and imagine exactly how you feel right now. I bet you feel so guilty that you cant pick up your baby. Please try not to, you can definitely make up for the cuddles in a few days when yr feeling better. Is there any way maybe you could lie on your side, maybe padded under your boob (even if its kind of half on your back) to almost spoon him a bit. My surgeon didn't say I couldn't sleep on my side, obviously if yours has then scrap that idea.
Personally I feel as tho every couple to 3 days I feel better than the last 2 or 3. The first week was the hardest for me so maybe you will b over the worst of it too. It wont help that yr not sleeping, you really need that to help recovery. Ty to sleep when little one does, even snatching 20 mins is better than nothing :) x x

Re: Can't catch a break!
Bless you hh, week one is hard enough alone, let alone with a poorly bubba. Week 2 will start getting so much easier, in the meantime maybe the others could help out whilst you grab some sleep? Or at least bring baby to you in bed as opposed to you up and down.
I hope you both feel better soon, try not to feel bad...you won't feel so rough for long and I'm sure your being a great mum regardless of feeling your not able to do much xx

Re: Can't catch a break!
I won't attempt to offer any advice as I'm not there yet, but as a fellow mummy I will send you a big virtual hug as I can imagine how terrible you must feel. Please just remember that you couldn't have anticipated all of this, so please try not to feel guilty.
Hoping things get better for you soon xxx

Re: Can't catch a break!
Oh the poor little thing. I think ear infections are one of the most painful ailments to have - sending this for the little one
I think I said in a previous thread to you not to worry about not being about to comfort your son, you still can, you just can lift him sweetie.
Making a makeshift bed on the floor for him, so you can sit with him with your back supported by the sofa or a chair. You can play with him down there as well then, but I should imagine with his meds he'll be wanting to do lots of sleeping, so you can let him be near his mummy which is what kids want when they're poorly isn't it and you can get some sleep too as well if you'd like to. Maybe see the little off to sleep and then you can get of the sofa.
I know it doesn't make for a tidy room, but needs must and right now your baby needs you, so snuggling on a makeshift bed is your best option.
If hubby's with you he lift the baby to you as long as you have a pillow protecting your boobs. Sick babies have a habit of throwing their heads back don't they when they just can't deal with being so poorly. So the pillow will sort that out for you.
It's so, so, hard for a mum not to be there for her child, especially when they're ill. But there absolutely no reason why you can't have that skin to skin cuddle with the baby. It's not easy nut it's definately doable - this ones for you too

Re: Can't catch a break!
Awh thanks so much for your support and cuddles girls. I really appreciate it. It means a lot to wake up to messages of support from you all, makes the hard times a little easier!
Thanks for all of your suggestions too for how I can have some contact with my little one. They're all really good but unfortunately my baby boy is not a restful type and doesn't do sitting and cuddling! He's ALWAYS active and every time I have attempted to have him put on my lap he throws his head back straight into my chest and scrambles off, hurting me in the process. I tried to lie him down in his cot (from a sitting position) and really strained myself just trying to do that. Unfortunately I've had to leave pretty much all the mum duties to my MIL and it has been the hardest thing ever. Keep wanting to cry whenever he goes to her and FIL. Ah well, tis only for a few more weeks I guess.
On the positive side I went for my one week post-op appointment today and my nurse was happy with my progress and thinks my incisions are healing beautifully. She told me I can now enjoy a quick bath so I'm looking forward to that tonight to ease the stress of the past few weeks!! Thanks again for all of your love!

Re: Can't catch a break!
Are you sure your clinic said 'BATH' H?
Normally the dressings are just showerproof, not completely waterproof so we're not to fully 'soak' the dressings in the water.
A half filled bath is generally advised so keeping your upper body dry.
Of course if she did say you can have a soak, that's fine, but I just thought I'd mention hun because we haven't yet had one single woman fully able to submerge into the water until after 6 weeks. Xx

Re: Can't catch a break!
Yeah I had my dressings removed and she advised due to my extremely stressful week to 'have a short soak in the bath'. She did say not to let myself get pruney lol and obviously pat dry the wounds. I double checked with her as was quite surprised too! Thanks for alerting me to it though as if I hadn't checked a few times I'd definitely be quite concerned :) xx
