'Generally' if you've been treated in hospital as an inpatient anytime within the last 6 months you will be asked to have the MRSA swabs.

Some clinics 'if you're fit and healthy' don't bother at all with pre-op tests. Xx

All I know is that in an nhs hospital it is standard practice to do swabs regardless of past admission. Not sure for private xx

Like Cookie said, if its not standard practise in the clinic, its normally if you've been an inpatient at another hospital in the recent months. I didn't have one. But its just a cotton swab, nothing to worry about!

I didn't have one , op was performed at a Spire hospital.I think work can be a factor too in whether or not you get swabbed for MRSA , ie if your a nurse or carer working with sick people. XXX
