MRSA SCREEN- THG
HI, Just had the pre op nurse on the phone she went through a few questions from my questionnaire. Anyway I need an MRSA Screen but was told to go to MY OWN GP. Shouldn't THG do it as its their hospital I will be going to. Plus don't they do any blood to find out blood group etc incase of an emergency? She just said ill be contacted 48 hrs before the op??? Anyway im waiting for my practice nurse to call back but have a feeling their gong to say no or ill have to pay for a referral to the local hospital for the swab.

Re: MRSA SCREEN- THG
Its less money for them to have to she'll out if they get you, who expects 'private care' to go to the NHS for tests they CAN do for you. your GP may even request payment seeing as the test isn't essential to your health.
Unless you have any health conditions then blood tests aren't really necessary. As long as you're in good health most clinics won't bother with blood tests.
The MRSA tests are generally required if you've been admitted to a hospital in the last 6 months. Some want them done anyway.
But I wouldn't worry babe. Just get the test done and you're a step nearer to having your BA. If you would rather not contact your GP about having the MRSA tests done for your upcoming surgery to have a BA then do ask that they do the tests for you hun. Xx

Hi Annmarie. I didnt have any bloods done with THG. Your blood group will be in your medical notes anyways, so dont worry about that! They only take bloods if theres a specific need to, e.g. diabetes or something. Not heard about the MRSA though, but Im sure someone else will have :)

Re: MRSA SCREEN- THG
I just called them back and she just said I need to clarify whether I do need it or not. Which it may take her a day to find out? OMG this is basic stuff I would have expected a nurse who deals with wounds daily to know, as MRSA does effect wound healing and can lead to blood infections!...I bet my surgery will say I would have to pay for a referral 'sigh'...I shall wait for the verdict.
I thought they would need to know my blood group incase I bleed a little too much.........from what your saying cookie they will contact my GP before the op then for those details?
Thanks ladies for your info....This site is a blessing for quick info from people who have experienced the procedure and processes

Nope. The clinic will only contact your GP if you have a health condition hun. The only way your GP will be aware that you've had a BA is when you pass the discharge notes into your GP after surgery.
If you have a rare blood group, do be sure to let them know babe. Otherwise I'd presume they just have a group O blood bank that can be given to any blood group. Xx
Re: MRSA SCREEN- THG
ok thankyou...I wish the nurse would explain these things without you having to ask so you are informed. Thats the least they can do for the service you pay for instead they find ways to cut costs.....Finished moaning now.. lol CANT WAIT TILL MY BA NOW!

The nurse at THG told me they not need the blood group as there is very little bleeding with a straight forward BA x

Re: MRSA SCREEN- THG
There is no reason why THG can't do the MRSA swabs for you.. so not sure why they are making it difficult for you! I went with THG and didnt need to have the swabs, but I had bloods as I'd recently had low iron levels, plus I have the weird O neg blood group x
