Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
Hi girls!
I'm totally new to all of this. This has been a long time coming but I've finally decided to take the plunge!
I'm getting married in May and my question to you lovely ladies is how long did it take for you to recover properly? I'm hoping to have the surgery feb/March next year, do you think I'll have recovered and my new boobs will have settled by then?
Hannah

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
Sorry to say, but absolutely not. At a minimum, most surgeons will recommend you in a sports bra for 8-12wks, and even after that, theres no guarantee that you'll be comfortable in a regular wired bra, or that they'll sit right. It takes around 6m before you start to see the final results, and they are healing internally for well on a year. Also, if you're planning to honeymoon straight after the wedding, you wont be able to wear bikinis, you'll need to keep them well out of the sun for at least 6m, and scars for a year.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, just giving my honest opinion. If you cant get them done sooner, I'd wait until after.

Oh no! No, don't worry about being the bearer of bad news! It's extremely useful to hear these things as don't want to be completely unrealistic in my expectations! Yeah we are going on our honeymoon straight away so I shall have to bear that in mind. Thankyou again! xx

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
I got married last July, and got my boobs done this June. To be certain I was making the decision to get my boobs done for the right reasons I decided to wait until post wedding in case it was related to an obsesion with looking the best possible bride!! That said, I now wish I had them done before! Even to the point that I want to try on my dress again just to see how it would have looked! BUT, I personally have only just started to feel confident with my new boobs....I'm 4 months post op and despite them looking normal-ish from about 3 months, I've only recently started to feel like they are my own and 'normal'. I guess before I've felt a bit silly for having got them done and in a strange way felt a little uncomfortable around hubby for going to such an 'extreme' to make my body better, but them still not being 'perfect' in the early days. I guess what I'm saying is, 2/3 months is definitely too short, but if you could get them done sooner, maybe 5/6 months before they will be settled and soft and feel like your own again. Congrats!

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
From my experience my boobs in clothes looked kind of ok around 2months+ but in bras they didn't sit right & the still felt quite hard & tender, took a good few more months before they started to soften & feel more a part of me.
You want to be able to enjoy your big day not to mention honeymoon the last thing you will need is sore boobs that you will still be over protective off.
If you can't get the op sooner ,wait enjoy your wedding/ honeymoon & you will still have your new boobs to look forward to after. XXX

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
It may be the difference between overs and unders, but my boobs felt and looked like my own about a week after my surgery. I've been back in underwired bras from the beginning of this week, six weeks after my op.
Charlii makes a good point about keeping them out of the sun, especially the scars. I did wear a bikini at five weeks... but was indoors and at night.
Maybe a city based honeymoon would be the best option.
Congratulations

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
Thanks girls.
Unfortunately (well, fortunately for me!) we have already booked our honeymoon in the Caribbean so a city based honeymoon is a good idea but a little too late! Thanks all for your replies. I really appreciate the honest advice as it will help me to know what to ask in my nurse consultation next week! In your experience how quickly could you book your ops for? Is it a case of long waiting lists or generally good at fitting you in as soon as you want? xx

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
It all really depends on individual surgeons schedules, but can be as little as a few weeks following consultation.I would advise not rushing into anything though, take your time & have a few consultation with different surgeons to explore all the options available to you & to find the surgeon you have most confidence in getting you the results you are after etc. XXX

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
Some girls are able to book that month, some surgeons only open their schedules a couple months at a time, some 6months plus ahead...for me, I had my consult in March, and knew the beginning of June was the best time for me workwise, and I was able to book for when I wanted. But definitely don't rush into anything, if you feel at all unsure, don't book just because of timings. Always be 100%

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
maybe a lot depends on the size...I am about 6 weeks post op and wearing normal bras and back exercising and they feel fine but I didn't have huge implants and had overs

Re: Average recovery? In time for wedding?!
I didnt have huge implants and if im honest im still getting there in my journey as I looking at another reop
things to consider that MIGHT happen as there is always a chance are
you might be in a sports bra or compresssion band day and night for up to 12 weeks and if you have complications longer
you might not feel comfortable in bras or out a sports bra for months
you might get a complication and need further surgery like myself
but you could have an easy recovery theres just no knowing xx

Same here. I do think you get a much easier ride with overs though. The recovery time seems to be much faster. I got the all-clear for exercise at four weeks. I'm seven weeks post-op now and, so far, so good.
