Hey girls, for any of you that have/had removable stitches, how long was/is it until removal ?

On my paperwork it says that suture removal is generally 10-14 days post op. My surgeon is at my local clinic on a Friday, this Friday I will be day9 post op so I have been booked for next Friday (d16 post op). I am really starting to feel them now though, they feel really tight and sharp, and feel like they pull any time I move :(

I have emailed my surgeons PA to see what she suggests but just wondered what anyone else thought? I don't want them out if it's too early, but I don't think I can wait until next friday...:( xx

I didn't have them in but I think we all feel the tightening around that time and feel nervous about moving too quickly... Even with the dissolvable ones! I guess it's because we are knitting back together!
I think either way (day 9 or day 16) it won't do you any harm and although uncomfortable with the tightening of your skin I don't think they would allow you to wait until day 16 if it was a possible risk ... See what the other ladies say but if you really are uncomfortable then ring in and try to get an appointment, if it has to be day 9 then again they wouldn't offer that day to you if they wasn't happy to do so xxx

Thanks hun :) they just feel really tight and like they are pulling as I move. Because I know they are the removable type I guess it's a bit psychological too, you feel like if they come out the sharpness will stop... I'll see what they say :) xxx

Yeah that's my fear of having them out early :/ no-ones got back to me as yet but I know he doesn't normally work Wednesdays so hopefully I'll find out tomorrow... it's not so bad when I'm sitting still but when I move that's when they pull and it feels yuk ! Xxx

Ok so surgeons PA has just got back to me, she has spoken with my surgeon and he has said what I am feeling is completely normal for this stage. He said there is a peak in swelling and serious fluid around this time which is causing the tightness around the stitches, but this should reduce day by day, reducing the pulling on the stitches. I'm gonna continue to drink plenty of water to help with the swelling and have the stitches out as planned next Friday xx

Hey,

Ihad my dressings/steristrips off on day 8 (tuesday week after op) but had to go back on the wed as part of wound was weeping and I didn't want to risk getting an infection. The nurse put anothr dressing on it on the wed and it came off on sat and the wound looks fine now but still getting shooting pains and boobs feeling hot but it's all normal (rung hospitak on monday this week as worried).

Awww poor u :( I guess it's worth an extra 9days wait then, hopefully by then they should be closed... I've got waterproof dressings on top so haven't got a clue what they look like under there ! I've dampened some disposable breast pads, stuck them in the freezer for a bit and now got a couple in my bra... why didn't I do this earlier :) lol

I don't think we're doing anything for fireworks night this year, but hubby's taking me to Brighton for the weekend next week so I'm really looking forwards to that :) xx
