Sore dry skin
Hi everyone,
I was advised by my surgeon to wait 4 weeks before showering/getting incisions wet, and to keep the site covered. I was given lots of large dressings (basically big sticky plasters) to put over each incision. However, I have noticed recently that when I take off the dressing, my skin underneath is very saw and red and raw. Its actually a bit painful as its like peeling off a plaster every 2 days from skin that is very dry.
I am almost 3.5 weeks post op and I was wondering what you all think about me taking off the dressing plasters and just putting on my sports bra? I know it would be about 4 days early, but it really is getting very sore and my skin under the sticky bits is peeling as its so dry.
I still wont be getting the incisions wet until the 4 week mark.
thank you girls xxx

No. You must stick in out. Only 4more days, you can do it! Plus once your done with it you can carefully moisturize around the incision. Or all over it if you've been given the all clear. Not too long, just bear with it.

You could consider not changing the dressing so frequently, dependent upon what you were told? I once had a dressing on for over 2 weeks between appts! I take it it's just the skin that's sore and raw, rather than the incision? You may have a sensitivity to the adhesive of the dressings perhaps.

Re: Sore dry skin
When I went for my first appointment the nurse commented that I'd probably had some sensitivity to the adhesive so she put micropore tape over the wounds, which were healing quite well by then. I hadn't actually noticed as I'd assumed any itching was the wounds healing, which it could have been.
You could ring your surgeon and ask their advice. I'd be reluctant to remove the dressings early if they've said 4 weeks. Do you have an appointment at the 4-week mark, so will they know if you remove them early? Micropore tape would still be a good idea.
Hope your skin gets better soon!
