Re: saline to silicone
Silicone implants were banned for many years in the US, that is why saline is more popular there.
Before silicone implants used a cohesive gel filling, they used liquid silicone. If the implant shell ruptured, the silicone leaked out and spread around the body. If saline solution leaks, it is just absorbed by the body with no ill effects.
Saline implants can be inserted deflated and filled once in the pocket which is an advantage. They do seem to be more prone to visible rippling though.

Re: saline to silicone
HellsBells has covered it - Saline is popular in America, but here in the UK, the majority of all implants are cohesive gel silicone. There are no safety issues at all, silicone implants are fully CE approved.
In the Uk, I believe Saline is more used for people having a gradual increasing BA, i.e. trans ops, in order to gradually fill an implant and stretch the skin before replacing it with a permanent silicone one. We did have one girl going through this procedure on here.

Re: saline to silicone
Silicone breast implants were only re-introduced to the USA in 2006. Since then many women have still since shown their preference over there to saline, even though the claims made were never proven. Even reading the websites of MANY plastic surgeons today you'll find they are still bias toward saline regardless of the evidence proving silicones safety.
Now, over the years, Americans have slowly become much more confident about them and the main reason they're heading toward silicone or replacing with silicone is due to how they feel.
Silicone implants have a very natural feel in compassion to saline which from what ive seen quoted many times in ref to saline, they feel like a bag filled with water (which is just what they are) and when the patient has recovered and indulges in rigorous excercise they can feel and hear the saline inside sloshing about. Xx

Re: saline to silicone
question! I am currently 550 cc saline, I had my BA 2 years ago and since then have had a daughter, I am nursing her at the moment, and when I am finished, I would like to switch from saline to silicone, if I went smaller what would happen?!
