Pre-op Prep
I'm having my op 2 weeks tomorrow and haven't had any kind of info through about pre-op prep, so thought I'd ask you ladies what you were told to do? I'm guessing I shouldn't drink or eat anything with garlic in (going to be tough, I practically live off pasta and pesto!). Anything else I should be doing? Thaaanks! x

Re: Pre-op Prep
There Still time for it to come through, if you're worried, give them a call and find out.
So around now, stop drinking and smoking. A week before stop anything blood thinning, so garlic, Chinese food, aspirin, any supplements you're taking. Make sure you're moisturizing to get them nice and supple, and start doing plenty of planks to strengthen those stomach muscles, you're going to need them.
I can't think of the rest right now, so a quick call to your clinic will clear up what they advise for you.

Thanks Charlii, might give them a ring monday if I still haven't heard anything. They sent out a written pre-op, but as I have a long term medical condition, I'm anticipating being called in for a proper pre op :-/ Spire are being pretty pants with communication tbh!
Purple you must be so excited! have you got all your stuff ready and bought now? x

Re: Pre-op Prep
A lot of girls aren't actually called in for a pre op appointment. I got a phone call a week before asking for my next of kin and if I knew my most recent blood pressure reading (you can just ring the gp for this). Then when I was there I had height weigh BP, general health and medical history. Some people have bloods and mrsa swabs taken (usually if you've been in another hospital within the last 3-6m). If you've a pre existing condition, I'd definitely give them a call to be on the safe side, they may want to check your bloods to make sure you're fit and healthy for the op.

Re: Pre-op Prep
Hi Ella!
Yes I'm so ready! Bought some antibacterial soap, got my V pillow and last night even practiced sleeping with all my pillows on my back!
I've put a few things in my overnight bag and just thinking now if there are some good box sets that I can watch during the first week. ... all suggestions appreciated

Re: Pre-op Prep
omg you're so organised! I'm going to stay with my parents for a couple of weeks after (living in a shared house and don't want my housemates knowing!) so think I'm going to work my way through all their dvds! I'm wondering about getting sex and city, game of thrones and broadchurch....

Re: Pre-op Prep
Gah, not impressed, still nothing through from Spire and after ringing them this morning, was told they'd call me back...which they haven't! (Been at work all day so haven't been able to chase). Do some people only get pre-op advice a week before?

Re: Pre-op Prep
I think some people only have a phone call or conversation below their op?
Don't worry sweetie, try calling and emailing them again tomorrow and in the mean time maybe another Spire lady will be able to let you know what to expect xx

Re: Pre-op Prep
I had my pre op today!
The nurse talked me through what would happen when I got to the hospital and that when i woke up I'd have a mask on, the surgical stockings and things around my calves which help prevent DVT.
She also went through my medical history, took my blood pressure, temperature, height, weight and took swabs for MRSA. They also tested a urine sample to check for infection.
It was very simple and nothing to worry about!

Re: Pre-op Prep
Are you telling them you've got a pre-existing condition while on the phone to them? My 'pre op' was on the day, but I didn't need bloods or mrsa. I'd keep ringing every couple hours to be honest, annoy them into giving you the info. You just want to know where you stand incase you need some prior tests done.

Re: Pre-op Prep
Hey Charlii, I've had a pre-op over the phone now - the main thing I was worried about was my heart, but they've said they'll take me in early on the day and do an ECG - which is what I wanted them to do really! They seem to be taking it more seriously now and I've got the nurses direct phone number to ring if I have any more questions. I asked if there was anything I should avoid doing/eating and they said no! But I've been avoiding garlic, chinese and not been drinking just to be safe :-)
