Why did you choose overs or unders?
I've been doing a bit of research into the merits of overs vs unders and it seems there are pros and cons for each. I have very little breast tissue so it may mean I don't have a choice but I am interested to know what made you ladies go for one over the other? I am thinking if ideally like to have overs if I could but worry about increased CC risk. I have my first consultation in a few weeks so it will be interesting to see what his view is!

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
My surgeon told me overs would sit more naturally for me as I had a reasonable amount of breast tissue ... so I didnt choose... my surgeon just told me.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
This is the one thing making me most nervous as my surgeon is going to decide once in theatre! I always thought I'd be unders as I don't even fill a 34aa and another surgeon said unders, but my one said he might do overs as he said I have just enough tissue. I guess I'm worried I'll be able to feel the implant loads if overs but I have to chill and trust him! Overs would be an easier recovery!

My surgeon has decided under for me as i have little breast tissue and a concave chest wall. Im happy i didn't have to decide that one :)
Good luck with your research x

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
Placement is always something your surgeon will decide on. Its not something you can make that choice on because if the risk of complication involved if the wrong choice is made.
Overs will ALWAYS be a surgeons first choice where possible, but if there's not enough breast tissue for coverage then partials will be chosen.
BOTH options will give a nice natural feel and appearance given the right choice is made. X

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
I didn't have a choice, it was always going to be unders. It's not dependent on how 'big' the boob is, but how much tissue and skin there is to 'hide' the implant. You could be flat as a pancake but if you've got good surrounding tissue you could have overs. I have pokey out ribs and very little surrounding tissue, so an over would have looked dreadful on me. The surgeons are trained to give you the best option for you. And sometimes that can be decided in theatre when they can see what they're working with.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
Hey
I did choose unders. My surgeon gave me the option either way as I did have enough breast tissue for overs. I weighed up the pros and cons, and decided that unders were what I wanted. Intuitively it felt like the right decision
If my surgeon had said I had to have overs, i wouldn't have had a problem, as he's the expert
I'm v happy so far

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
I wasn't given the choice due to my 'thin chest wall' (!)
I'm going to have unders with anatomicals which I DID choose.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
I was told as my boobs are quite high on my torso I would need unders to cover the top of the implant and achieve the natural look I want. I also don't have much natural breast tissue. I think I might be having partial unders.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
Most unders are partial unders, with the lower breast not under the muscle. Full on unders are normally reserved for mastectomies or sex changes I believe.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
In theatre my surgeon decided to go for overs (subfascial)....early signs are looking good, hoping they will look nice and natural! Surgeon told me he decided that as I had just enough tissue (if he included the fascial layer of the muscle) and he thought my chest muscle was strong so over time would have pushed my implants to leave a gap if he went under. Fingers crossed he's made the right section for me! At least my recovery seems ok! I can imagine why under the muscle is harder

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
That's really interesting mamaia as I barely fill a 34aa but feel like if prefer overs mainly as I do a lot of exercise and I worry about the recovery and impact of messing around with the pec muscles. Have consultation in 2 weeks so will be interesting to see what Dr grover has to say!

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
Mine told me i had breast tissue, it was just flat lol!! I've never filled a 34aa but obviously I had something, and I'm not skinny (size 10/12)! See what he says. I read a great article on here in the info section under 'find the perfect boob' on overs/unders if you're interested. Ultimately it's nice that the surgeon decides for us! Size is a hard enough choice! Are you seeing a few surgeons? Interestingly 2 other surgeons said unders for me. I think he's made the right choice though!!

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
Daisychains I am the same, I was really concerned about recovery time as I run slot of have two, big and very active dogs and a horse and being out of action will be a pain. Surgeon told me I needed unders to achieve the look I wanted and that was that. He said whilst there was a difference in recovery it wasn't significant enough to be a deciding factor.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
That's handy to know thanks Kez. Mammamia at the moment I am only booked to see dr grover but I thought I would see how I felt about the whole thing after seeing him before paying for any other consultations. The other person I'll probably see is CC Kat although if I feel comfortable enough with dr grover I may not bother!

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
My surgeon advised dual plane (part under pecs) for a natural look , plus I lift weights so it would have looked odd on my frame for overs and at least they won't go saggy anytime soon .

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
Soosie how long ago did you have your BA and did going under cause you any probs with weightlifting? I do a lot of cross training so muscle work like push ups and weight (wouldn't really call it weightlifting mind!) and how unders will affect exercise is a real worry for me.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
I wasn't an easy case, I had thin stretched skin from breastfeeding, with one breast having more tissue than the other and being droopy. On reflection maybe I should have got unders plus lift as I'm still droopy on the one and ripply on the other but she chose overs for me as I was too droopy for unders. x

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
I had my BA on the 30th Dec 2013 so 6 months post op . Went back to the gym after 2 weeks for purely leg work then at 6 weeks with the go ahead from my surgeon started lifting light to start , only took 3 weeks to get back to my normal weights . Only issue I had were pressups and punch planks , bit uncomfortable till I was around 10 weeks post op .Daisychains wrote:Soosie how long ago did you have your BA and did going under cause you any probs with weightlifting? Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
My surgeon said overs as I have alot of breast tissue and I cannot be more happy. They're so natural and squishy and they're shaped really well. :)

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
Hey Daisychains I am in the same predicament. I do a lot of weights, body weight exercises, Tabata and circuits and am wondering how long to leave it till I go full on at the gym and also what the implants feel like.

Re: Why did you choose overs or unders?
I chose overs as I had loose skin from weightloss that needed "filled up" which is why I opted for implants. Unders would have left me with the 4breast look! And I wouldn't fancy them under the muscle. They feel and look so natural, almost 1 year on, so all is fantastic! Lairyfairie it took me about 3 months before I felt normal again for exercise. I did it from around 6weeks but felt wary and restricted with movement.
