Painkillers before op
Hi, I've been told by my surgeon not to take any painkillers at all for two weeks before my op, not even paracetamol. Anyone else had this advice? Aspirin I can understand, and I suppose any opiate based tablets, but be said not to take ANY type. I have rheumatoid arthritus, although it's only mild I'm not sure about not being able to take anything.

Have you spoken to your surgeon about your medical condition?
So you have an ongoing prescription for medication for your rheumatoid arthritis?
If you haven't then its important you disclose this to your surgeon. They need to know of any medical conditions you have and medication you might be taking so the anaesthetist can give you the right anaesthetic.
Give your clinic a call lovely. You'll have a pre-op anyway before the big day but if you need pain medication now before disclosing it then be sure to clear it with your surgeon.
If its prescribed or advised by your GP to use over the counter medication there's no problem at all with pain medication.
But it MUST be disclosed and cleared with the anaesthetist.
Of course if you're currently taking a prescribed ongoing medication don't stop taking it. Just inform your surgeon. It'll be fine hun.
Your surgeon just wants the very best for you and of course that going to be having a clear system for them to work with.
If you need medication they can then tweak things to and give you you the care you need. Xx

Just echoing Cookie really, chat with your PS and disclose anything you're taking, and it should all be fine. Its just so they can adjust the GA properly.
