Re: Painkillers?
Think it depends on surgeons. I didn't have any guidelines at all. Lots of ladies have been told to avoid garlic and all sorts. My surgeon even said I could sleep on my side.
Probably best to ask yr clinic x

Re: Painkillers?
Jen I've not been told anything at all either, only about the not eating and drinking bits :-/
I don't have direct contact with my surgeon sadly, and I know his secretary who I've dealt with up to now is away on holiday till next week so I thought I'd ask advice from you ladies in the mean time.
I'm 12 days pre-op so I'm sure a couple of ibuprofen won't make a difference at this stage. I'm sure if it was so detrimental to surgery they would have told me by now (or I'd like to think so anyway).
Thanks hun x

Re: Painkillers?
I would think so but I'm pretty sure that paracetamol is safe beforehand so maybe stick to those?
I'm sure someone else might offer you different advice but I never got told anything, my surgeon was very chilled Lol x

Think I've got paracetamol in the kitchen somewhere, if not I'll grab some in the morning.

Re: Painkillers?
Don't take ibuprofen just in case, it's a blood thinner and some ladies are asked not to take it for 2 weeks before. Same with aspirin or any other drugs in this class (NSAIDs). Paracetamol is fine but if in doubt check with clinic, there must be someone there to answer questions in the secretary's absense.

Re: Painkillers?
I've been told i'll be given ibuprofen and paracetamol mainly post op so guessing they're both fine. Ibu's an anti inflam so don't see why it would be an issue x

Re: Painkillers?
I was told no ibruprofen, garlic, fish oil or vitamin E compounds 2 weeks before and 2 weeks get surgery. And arnica tablets x2 three times a day 2weeks before and 2 weeks after.
You should get given a lot of meds with specific instructions on discharge. I hot paracetamol and codine, oramorph (liquid morphine) antibiotics and even constipation tablets lol!!
I've tried to cut down on the codine and stick to regular paracetamol but theres moments when I've deff needed the strong stuff!! Xxx

Re: Painkillers?
Ibruprofen seems to be at surgeons discretion, some send their patients away with it, some say to avoid it because its a blood thinner (in the same way smoking and garlic is). Saying that, I've not heard anyone told to not take it pre-op. I guess it depends what you're taking it for, if its a headache or pain somewhere, inc. cramps, stick with paracetamol, but if you specifically have an inflamed ailment, like a twisted ankle, then take ibruprofen.

Re: Painkillers?
Thanks for your help everyone!
I did take a couple of paracetamol last night as I had a sore boob and thought it was a cyst, however this morning both boobs are sore and feel huge, I started back on the pill last Friday after a 3 year break (trying to conceive) so I'm blaming that - damn hormones, just hoping they've settled by next week otherwise the BA will be a double ouch, right now I can't even bear my bra on my boobs never mind a scalpel lmao!!
Nothing's ever just simple is it!!
Sure all will be fine though xxx

Re: Painkillers?
Well I think that is some relief that it isn't a cyst! - I hated the pill with a passion and didn't get on with any of them :(
I just had a chuckle to myself, I know how some womens boobs get bigger on the pill, I just pictured a surgeon going 'Why do you want a boob job now, your boobs are huge!' hehe x

Re: Painkillers?
Haha, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] when I say huge, I mean I now fill my 34a bra as apposed to it sagging off me lmao so I there's no fear of the surgeon saying that!! Hehe x
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] the doctors say I don't ovulate which is why we haven't been able to conceive. I've gone back on the pill to try and regulate my periods as they've been all over the place recently so I doubt very much I would be pregnant. It's not a sensative subject don't worry, I've kind of always known I wouldn't have kids x

Re: Painkillers?
Hi, I would say it's the pill making your boobs hurt then. The reason I said it was because that's one of the first symtoms I had with pregnancy. They more than hurt. I hope you feel better soon. Xxxx

Re: Painkillers?
Thanks Hun, I would have been convinced I was a few months ago before all the blood tests but not now. I do have a test at home but it would be way to early to tell anyway, my period is due the day of my op and I intend to keep taking the pill in the hope I don't come on (one less thing to worry about lol). I might do it a couple of days before though just to be 100% sure if I'm still sore x

Re: Painkillers?
Hehehe! I knew what you meant, it was just what came to my mind when I read it
I fully expected the clinic to give me a pregnancy test but they believed me when they asked 'is there anyway you could be pregnant?' and I shouted 'NO' lol! xx

Re: Painkillers?
Lmao, when I went for my pre-op last time (before my date changed) they did take a wee sample, they didn't say what it was for but I'm guessing it was that.... Wonder if I'm supposed to have another pre-op or if they will just go with that one, I think it was about a month ago now.... Hmmmm :-/
I can't wait till I can say 'my boobs feel huge' and someone say 'that's because they are Sarah' and they actually mean it!! Hehe!! :dance:xx
