sleeping upright
I know for the first week wer suppose to sleep upright, but I just cant get comfy this way and slowly my body slips down and I end up flat on my back. I'm not rolling onto my side or anything, but how important is it that I sleep upright?
Also I still feel really sick from the ga how long till this wears off? xx

Re: sleeping upright
Its helps with the swelling to stay upright like Natalia said. I also found I slipped down despite having the V pillow and others too! But so long as ur propped up a bit, think u will be ok. I haven't suffered swelling and am still sleeping propped up as I find its still bit painful to lie down fully - xxxxxxxx

Re: sleeping upright
Yeah it helps with the swelling hun, but i was the same and found myself asleep on my back when i woke up i dont think it will cause any problems just as long as your not rolling onto your side.
It took me about 2 weeks to feel completly back to normal although i wasnt feeling sick i felt very groggy and bloated, drink lots of water and plenty of fruit and veg and you should be fine in no time!

Re: sleeping upright
I brought myself a v pillow and just sat my body in it with a normal pillow underneath.
That seemed to do the trick im not just over 3 weeks p/o and still find the pillow a life saver.

Re: sleeping upright
Put a couple of pillows under your knees as well, it should help prevent you from slipping down the bed too much.
I must confess that I did sleep on my side fairly early on BUT if I had loads of pillows under my head and neck my boobs had no pressure on them.
The moment I had my stitches out I was back to my usual side sleeping again.
Good luck. Angel x

Re: sleeping upright
I put a pillow under each arm, and under my knees too like AP said and my V pillow propping me up. I did that for 2 weeks and i would sometimes wake up pretty much flat too x
Re: sleeping upright
I know this may go against the grain, but my nurse told me that sleeping upright just meant sleeping on your back, not in a sitting position. She said you're so strapped up for the first week after your op and the sports bra is supporting them laying on your back won't affect them in any way.
So if you find you're on your back in the night, don't worry, just try to make sure you don't roll over.

Re: sleeping upright
You know how i feel about nurses giving advice hun instead of a ps, but my ps said 45 degree angle so not bolt upright but in between to reduce swelling, especially with unders. Lying flat really makes your boobs ache so i wouldnt advise it xRoxyChick wrote:I know this may go against the grain, but my nurse told me that sleeping upright just meant sleeping on your back, not in a sitting position. Re: sleeping upright
.x. it is supposed to help reduce swelling quicker if you stay a bit upright as other people have said. I slept in a reclining chair at first which made it a lot easier but when I started sleeping in bed again I would sometimes be flat by the morning....at least tray and go to bed upright in the first place but don't worry too much if you wake up in a different position as it's something you can't really help! I found that I could stay pretty upright though if I used lots of pillows and put myself in the CORNER of the bed...my bed is against the wall so would lie with my head in the corner near the wall with lots of pillows behind me...found that wedging myelf in thsi way so I was kind of lying across the bed was more successful than lying straight down as I tended to move less in the night xxxx
