Sickness Empty Sickness

Post by Lias6246 18th October 2013, 8:57 am

Hiya Ladies,

I'm having my ba and uplift in less than 2 weeks and I've read a lot of the surgery stories about being sick after the ga. I HATE being sick, so much so that I fall apart when I'm sick. I cry my eyes out and it's just the worst feeling ever. I've read that it's the painkillers that cause sickness after a few days and I'm not too worried about that as I take tramadol daily so I'm hoping they will let me take that as I know it doesn't effect me.

Can I ask for anti sickness to be put into the ga or is there anything I can buy to stop me being sick straight after? Yuck just thinking about the sickness gives me the chills!

Thanks girls x

You most certainly can Lisa.

Just explain how you feel to the anesthetist and they will do all they can to look after you babe. Your anesthetist will come and see you on the day so don't worry, you can discuss it with them then xx

I think anti sickness are always put in but if you make them aware they will be able to take extra measures... When I woke up I told them I felt a little sick, I had an injection and it went right away :) x

I've got emetophobia hunny, so I can totally relate for me THIS was the biggest fear of having surgery.
I explained to the anetheatist and nurses and they were fantastic they can give you something through your iv and if after when you come round you feel nauseous you can take a tablet or have a jab , a jab works better as it works quicker plus nothing's going into your stomach.

They're ever so helpful and deal with ladies like us all the time !
Xx

Ginger biscuits is another little tip, to combat Nausea like in early pregnancy! Lucozade also to get sugar into your system as when blood sugar is low after being nil by mouth it can make you feel off colour xxx

Thank you mrs ball that's really helpful - oh no that must have been awful. I don't think I'm that bad I just hate hate hate it more than anything. I go on a sterilising spree when either of the kids get sickness but I don't seem to get it thank god.

Ooo ginger biscuits that's a good idea and I will definitely get some lucozade. Thanks again x

I'm awfully bad , my 21 month old daughters just got over a bug and it put me into panic mode and I bleach EVERYTHING umpteen times! I still sterilise her bottles panic I wash everything she's touched and my washing machine didn't stop for days even things she sat on!
I bathed her 3times a day just to know she was clean!
My hands are red raw from constant washing ..
I'm awful and my husband is so much better at dealing with it than I am however he knows how bad my phobia is and let's me crack on with it!

It's a horrible phobia to have and no one really understands it. Especially to the extreme I have it. I panic even when someone says they don't feel well.

I've tried counselling, psych therapy and hypnotherapy (which strangely worked for post traumatic ) none have worked for my sick phobia. help

I spoke to my anetheatist before surgery and said I have a tendency to feel sick after surgery. Although I was having totally different surgery and anesthetic this time, he still gave me anti sickness stuff just to be sure.

Aaah that's awful. That must be so so hard with kids. I really feel for you.  Is it just sickness or is it any sort of being unwell?

Is there any forums or anything that specialise in your phobia?

Lol.. I believe there are forums out there but I hate taking and reading about it the v word I can't say or read ..
It's just sickness , even if someone says they feel unwell my first thought is oh god they feel sick they'll be sick.

It's incredibly hard with children however I'm super OCD!

So no surface goes unbleached or hands unwashed!

Ah this is so good to know! This is one thing that was really worrying me... I was sick every day of both of my pregnancies, and actually had hyperemesis with my daughter & literally couldn't keep anything down... I was already terrible at coping with being sick, but after that I just can't cope at all. I had a sickness bug earlier this year & I just thought 'why me?' & cried my eyes out all night.
I'll definitely be letting my surgeon know so I can have some anti sickness mess! Phew Thumbsup  X

You poor thing Mrs Ball - I hope it gets better as your kids get older and don't make as much mess!

I'm the same Becciann and I'm really relieved now too...I was feeling sick just thinking about it!
